Massdrop is a group buying site where the final price is determined by the number of purchases; you'll be charged when the drop ends for the lowest price point the drop has reached at that time.
I agree this is the "Gold Standard," but not this model with the hot plate. Any coffee snob would not tolerate a hot plate to ruin the excellent coffee, but rather would go for the model with the stainless steel double-walled carafe.
Glass vs Thermal: I thought about this before settling on the glass version. Reason being that I can always pour the coffee into a thermal carafe if needed (to keep it hot much longer). Right now I just turn off the coffee maker as soon as it's done brewing and there's no worry about ruining the coffee. Also, I feel that the glass carafe is easier to clean.
I have the SS thermo carafe and while I agree its better, its a pain having to preheat the carafe otherwise the coffee isnt that hot.

Oof. Bought the refurbished one from Newegg about a month ago. Same price, but only a 1 year warranty. This is the best deal I've seen on this coffee machine so far! Nice post, OP.
Just watch this Brand on America's Test Kitchen and it's the Best of the Best, all hand-made with copper core heating element to give precise temperature.
I've heard of this machine but dunno much about it. Does it do a bloom process? Would I be able to put a cup and pour over under to do a single cup? How does this compare to the Bonavita? Do I really need a seventh way to make coffee? ;p Ty.

Agreed! Having a hot plate seems completely contradictory to having a good cup of coffee.

Exactly.
There was a blind taste test on one of their glass products vs. stainless steel. I recall teh glass won or it was a tie. We use our glass and the low heat button. We've had stainless carats over multiple makes.
Wife finally decided glass was worth a try; when I offered to buy an extra glass carafe,

Sure, for a crappy coffeemaker, it'll burn the brew. Though this one is the Homeline model that doesn't have the variable temperature switch, it maintains 180º and will not burn the coffee. I've tried it.
The normal full-priced Clubline model toggles 175º (for people who drink coffee black) and 185º for those who add milk/cream. I've tried mine at the 185º and it still doesn't burn it.

Still going strong.

SDers will like that the Bonavita's half the price of the Technivorm even when it isn't on sale. It also has a larger showerhead.
