Highly recommend this server. I have one running at home right now with tons of docker containers. Idle is at 15W. Max load is around 35W.
This is my plan for it. Been running freenas the last couple years on a smaller custom build, but ready to move to something beefier with debian or ubuntu and docker.
Need a guru to help me here. I have a very small business, do I have to intall windows server in this or will windows pro will do. I have 4 computers and we dont have a server.
I have one of these from a previous deal around christmas time, I unplug the power to the dvd rom, unplug power to the 3.5 inch hard disk, put in a new 2.5 inche SSD, and I am able to get the idle power down to 12 watts.
I am thinking about selling the 8gb ecc unbuffered ram stick, and the xeon cpu, Anyone interested?
The reason I am selling is because I want to upgrade to a better xeon cpu, and add more ram.
From what I read online, this machine can also take non ecc rams, but I am not sure.

Any version of Windows will work. Windows server just optimized for server use and comes without "fluff" that comes with regular desktop version

What you want for just the ram? Or for both in case I decide to just get motherboard elsewhere instead of this?
How many dimm slots? 4? Option to upgrade to 16gb adds $303 to price. Is this adding 2x 8gb sticks or is that single 16gb?
Seems like getting 8gb version plus buying additional 8gb stick from them would be cheaper since they only charge $130 for stick
Unless things have changed since 2017'ish, general rule of thumb is to always buy more RAM or storage elsewhere, Dell takes you to the cleaners when you start upgrading the base config on their website. Unless it's a "free" upgrade. Last little Txx server I bought a few years ago, it was cheaper to buy WD Gold drives from Newegg and get 5 year warranty vs. the default 1-yr on the drive(s) that would have come in it.

Not good, GREAT for Plexing. And from experience, the E5 only gives a marginal real world bump.

Suddenly the coupon is revoked "Due to limited availability"
Do one need to buy any software or it runs with free Plex?
Does this hook to the router directly or okay to do so via wifi?
