Good deal just be aware... these are 5400rpm drives. The slowest thing you can possibly buy.

They will work but they aren't good for NAS. They don't perform well in RAID, 24/7 use, high operating temperatures, and no TLER.

I have, if not this specific model (I've had it for years), a 5400rpm WD drive that I use for storage.

Every time I open the drive to access a folder it has to spin up and it will hang/freeze for ~30s. Unfortunately this also has to happen when searching within Windows (it searches all drives for your query so it will freeze up for a bit) and when pointing toward the drive to save/download things. It is a small annoyance but it's pretty rage inducing. I'd recommend this for cold storage - not something in a live environment.

have 3 of these drives running 24/7 in everyday use box for 2-3 years now with no issues. sounds like you are having a communication issue and should run some diagnostics. at a very least try new cables? I use Hard Disk Sentinel to keep watch on drives and have had no problems. other drives have failed over the years but these are running strong Peace

as with everything YMMV

A friend of mine got one and it's read write speeds are over 180mb. For a mechanical drive that's very good

You probably got a bad one... that doesn't mean every single one of these drives will act like the one you have
