It comes preseasoned, and I've tried to keep up with it. That said, you're burning a charcoal fire inside the thing, so between the high heat, scraping, charcoal clean out, etc, it's impossible (in my experience) to maintain a consistent or accumulating season, like you would with a pan going on a stovetop
I spray it with evoo before each use and put the coals on aluminum foil so it's easier to clean up afterward. I love this grill and it will probably be around after I'm long gone
I think most of the doubters don't realize that this same iteration has been around for a hundred years or more....
It's a classic hibachi. It's history.
I remember sampling satay'ed octopus cooked on one for the 1st time as a child of 6, on the beach in Soquel, Ca, as an old wizened oriental man tended to it.
Hell, that was in the 60's.

As a semi-pro BBQ guy, here's an industry secret for seasoning cast iron- flaxseed oil. While the grill is still hot, scrape it, then use a heavy rag and wipe it with the flaxseed oil. You need the coals to be hot to get the oil smoking. Once you do that, you're good for 2-3 cook sessions.
Fantastic deal OP!! Been waiting on this since last year when Walmart clearances them out.
Backside history, these were originally made in the early 1900's by a company called Birmingham Stove and Range, who later went bankrupt and out of business. Lodge at some point purchased the patent, and makes them to this day virtually unchanged, except a few very minor changes.
I'm at the stage where I just buy grills and explain things later, she gets pissed either way. As the saying goes, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
LOL ditto this comment. I just purchased a guitar and didn't tell my wife or get her permission. I figure at some point between now and the time it arrives, I'll think of a 'justification' and then tell her even though I can already telegraph the response: "seriously? You bought ANOTHER guitar? You don't even play... Why? We don't have space for more crap. UGHHHHH. Ridiculous. Why did you get more junk? Our house is caving in. STOP BUYING STUFF" - thank you Slickdeals (and Fatwallet, while you were still around)!
Do you sous vide? Would be great for final sear. 😀
Agreed! I picked one up a couple weeks ago when I found it at Walmart for $64. But never opened it because I didn't think it was worth it at the normal $88 price, but was still on the fence at $64 for the once a week meat searing for sous vide. Found it yesterday for the $45 in Raleigh, NC and returned the $64 one. At $45 it's cheaper than a Searzall and doesn't break like my Harbor Freight flamethrower.

Unit.
Not unless they're on clearance and they're not nearly as portable as the Lodge.
