Some notes:

My 86U has been bulletproof & on Merlin for last 12 months.
However, some users feedback have noted: 2.4GHz drops & 5GHz drops.

This can be related to the faulty MU-MIMO or beamforming settings but others have gone unexplained.

I've been debating whether if it's worth to upgrade from the AC68U (currently have two running AiMesh on a wired backhaul to the second node, with at least 35+ devices connected).

I don't use AiMesh because I have ethernet running throughout my house but from what I've read on snb (mostly) AiMesh is hit or miss for some folks so YMMV.

I came from a 68U also & wanted more range with the 86U - which it does provide.
Not the fastest speeds but I am not on gigabit plan - just 300mps. But I get most of that 300 over a longer distance.

Not directly answering you on your decision but I think the overall message but AiMesh & the 86U has a hit or miss rate on implementation & execution.

I hate newegg. Every single order that I have tried to place for the last 6 months or year went through, been confirmed, then was immediately cancelled. I have tried different cards, with the exact same outcome. Finally did customer service chat today (customer service, what a joke...) And was told that over the last year my account has been shifting back and forth between being active and suspended but they weren't sure why. She said she would email someone else to look into it, but they wouldn't be able to get back to me for up to 7 business days (well past the end of the sale). Told them not to bother. I will just wait a bit and pay a bit more at Amazon. So done with them.

Such a rough statement as there are a few things to check. A lot of issues have been discussed in the "cellspot" threads and Whirlpool [whirlpool.net.au]
Most of the time, people don't try to do as others mentioned and its a dead end for users to find out, 'did it help'.
