My 86U has been bulletproof & on Merlin for last 12 months.
However, some users feedback have noted: 2.4GHz drops & 5GHz drops.
This can be related to the faulty MU-MIMO or beamforming settings but others have gone unexplained.

Even after reset it's also only giving me 40% of my modem speed.i think at that price look at mesh wifi
I came from a 68U also & wanted more range with the 86U - which it does provide.
Not the fastest speeds but I am not on gigabit plan - just 300mps. But I get most of that 300 over a longer distance.
Not directly answering you on your decision but I think the overall message but AiMesh & the 86U has a hit or miss rate on implementation & execution.

Most of the time, people don't try to do as others mentioned and its a dead end for users to find out, 'did it help'.
