Sprint reached out and tells us that the link in the OP is outdated and this one https://community.sprint.com/t5/E...-p/1033393 is the newer, corrected one.
I didn't want to edit the OP but if the OP wanted to edit to have this link.. that would be great.

Note: Sprint stated they were in the process of of migrating all SERO accounts to SWAC, so you can either initiate the move yourself if you wish, or wait until they eventually get to your account.

Here is the dedicated customer service email. [email protected]
When I last used it, they took a full day to reply, but did so personably and thoroughly.

The monthly cost of plans were coming down before the contracts ended due to other factors. They certainly didn't come down enough afterwards to cover the cost of an $800 phone. That's $800msrp-$200upgrade fee/ 23mo. = $26/mo. And for those of us on SERO it was a killer, since our monthly cost didn't budge at all.
if i remember for me....my MRC went down significantly after they stopped sub phones

re sero:
had sero for a few months back in the day.
didnt care for it much.
much better to have family plan if that is/was option.
sero outlived its usefulness ~3-4 years back

Because people are stupid. They complained about contracts, so now they get to pay full price for their phones.Mad Exactly what the phone companies wanted. Thanks a lot, suckers.

Sure.

But as i recall, over a ll, the monthly cost of the plans also came down.

It really depended on if you wanted to upgrade every 2 years. If you were grabbing a new top of the line subsidized phone for $200 - $300 every 2 years it made economic sense for you. If you didn't upgrade for 4+ years, paying the extra fee every month to offset everyone else that was subsidized didn't make sense. We can't really speculate as to what plans would have cost had things not changed but I agree, the prices were trending down.

SERO was great back in the day, now it's just decent. Nothing beats a family plan, but for those of us with just one line SWAC is nearly as good as SERO used to be.

That's a good point. I like to uprgade every couple years so for me it hasn't been beneficial.

agree.
is good point.

i remember that on my plan, not everyone wanted to upgrade every 2 years.
in which case we were paying higher prices and not taking advantage of the perks that came with it.
so i had to force folks to upgrade, then sway back to old phone, and sell the new phone

now, in my opinion it allows for flexibility, so u can be either the person who upgrades every 2 years, or the one that likes to keep phone for more that 2 years or the person that buys last years flagship for ~200 rather than this years flagship for 800

in the end, i feel that doing away with sub phones and then lowers the MRC is good thing for consumer

Agreed with you there. Having the contract was better. Now I have to pay way more to upgrade my phone.

In 2012, Sprint's unlimited freedom plan was $60 for one line with sub phone. Now, you have an unlimited plan with no sub phone for $70 plus the cost of the phone on top of that. Doesn't seem that great to me.

Is there any reason to wait until new phones are released? I see some people mentioned waiting but I don't understand why.

It's because when new phones are released, there's usually some kind of promo that goes on and the older phone usually decreases in price.
