Ryzen 7 isn't low end. Not sure what you are talking about here.
He's just mad because he paid too much for his Intel processor.
The debate over Intel vs AMD for CPU has been great for consumers. Before AMD made their play, Intel was a 5 to 10% bump every year. There was not real improvement between 4th and 7th gen intel CPU, except for better encoding H265 and power consumption, while important for mobile, less for desktop. AMD with Ryzen in a single generation went for a also-player to a co-equal, this is remarkable. Between my workplace, my home, and my kids we have both Intel and AMD CPU running around in quantity. This not count the laptops.
Yes, Intel is better at games 5-10% with same GPU, but they also cost more. Please see the Linus Tech Tip review of a 700 dollar build Intel vs AMD. Intel has better IPC and floating point, this has always been the same, Ryzen + had a 5% improvement, and the new Ryzen 2 should have a 15% improvement compared to Zen+, so this would effective place Intel and AMD at the same footing. The 1700 is comparable to i5-8600K in passmark. The biggest difference is Single core, the IPC benefit of Intel is just massive, AMD multicore is just as massive in well threaded program like AutoCAD and Adobe Premiere. Unless Intel can pull of their 10nm transition quickly, then Ryzen 2 is going to give them some heartache.

Not following the prices lately. What would be the cheapest motherboard to go with this processor ? Trying to
figure out if the Ryzen 2700 deal is better.
I have the 1800x and it runs great. I wouldn't recommend any RAM under 3000MHz. That being said, 3000 series is about 3-4 months away and it does show some nice boosts to base clock speed plus PCI-E 4.0 for future proofing on the 500 series boards.
However, paired with a 1050Ti, M.2 drive, and 3000MHz ram I'm in no rush to upgrade my system. If you have an old system, you'll be happy with this.
Depends on your needs.AMD has more cores and threads meaning video editing and professional use can take advantage of the cores. Intel has better IPC and clockspeeds meaning that games will favor the current Intel i7. That being said not by much it's at most 10% difference and only if you have something stronger than a 1080ti/rx2070. Hope this helps you.

Personally, I'm waiting on Zen 2 7nm. Prices on last gen should drop more.
figure out if the Ryzen 2700 deal is better.

My son does this with a ryzen 5 1400, so yeah this will work just fine
