BH Photo still has the 512gb i5 version for $999 and it definitely seems like the better deal. Only con I guess is that they only offer the gold/rose gold options.
MacBooks today aren't worth it. It might be different if Apple included the adapter with the extra ports, but for such a high price, only getting a couple USB-C ports is a joke. I'm currently using a mid-2014 13" MBP and would rather hold on to it until it gives out just because it has HDMI and other useful ports (though RIP, Thunderbolt).
Still rocking my mid 2012 MBP and it powers though most tasks just fine. I'm glad I opted for the i7 processor. It's non-retina though so it has a DVD drive which I still use quite frequently lol.

2011 MBP with the replaceable battery here. Replaced my DVD drive with another storage SSD. I bought an external enclosure from ebay for the DVD drive. Upgraded to 16gb ram. Runs like a champ although Apple discontinued support for Mojave.
The point of my post is that I'm saying MBP are reliable machines. I don't know anyone still running 2011 Windows laptops. They either moved on to Surface Pros or Chromebooks.
