Please keep in mind, you can only apply a max of 3 years to your Xbox Live account at once. If you buy a 2 year card but already have 2 years left on your account, Microsoft will reject your code for the next 365 days. The entire balance of the card you're applying must fall within the 3 year rule, including all current time you have left on your account.
1 year cards are also available from Costco.
About the Ultimate Game Pass thing, it goes like this:
1. Buy and apply up to 3 years of Xbox Live Gold to your account.
2. Buy the $1 Ultimate Game Pass trial
3. You automatically get Ultimate activated for your entire Live Gold subscription (up to the 3 year mark, if you've purchased that much)
But be sure to read this thread before buying for more details.

Comes as one code for 24 months. Also you can only stack 3 years of xbox live. I know someone who tried to redeem 2 of these but couldn't due to the 36 month limit.
Great deal for anyone not wanting to wait for a $40 offer.

You can convert your current gold suscription to ultimate (includes gold, game pass and Newly released game pass for PC) for just $1. Next billing for ultimate service is whenever your current gold expires
Few people I know have NOT been able to extend. Once you applied ultimate, your gold suscription becomes inactive, and the gold 12/24 month card doesn't apply to your account as you are no longer gold suscriber, but ultimate suscriber.
A quick look on eBay didn't result in anything less than $50.

I say all of this from experience. I was pretty annoyed when I tried to apply 3 years of cards, but because I had 2 remaining months on my account, I couldn't apply all of the cards.
