Depends on the cashier enforcing it
Flash those pearly whites!
I know "money" is considered to be taboo in some cultures, but man, gift card is so annoying. It is difficult to use the entire amount with no change, sometime fee is involved, sometime stupid hold stays in forever, if cashier makes a mistake, it take times to resolve the issue, and so on and on..
Well, at least, now days you can just load the entire amount to Amazon..
Can't we just give a thoughtful letters with cash in it? Idk, maybe I am too efficiency-oriented..

Oh I get it.. you can combine this deal with amex 10% cashback that expires in a few days.. but still, gift cards are pretty annoying to use.

That being said most SDers are buying these to get the cash/points back since it's a moneymaker.

I just use balances at the grocery store at self check out super easy. I like these deals because I get 5% back through Chase on things I'd only get 1.5% back otherwise. Maybe a hassle a bit but it's worth it to me.
I bought 5 in one transaction before. Definitely depends on the store.

Agree, but some people think that giving cash is "tacky" and that it shows a little more "thought" and sincerity giving gift cards instead. Seems like an artificial distinction to me.
