The 7 refers to magnification. Imagine holding a ruler out in front of you and measuring the size of an animal out in the distance. Multiple it's size by 7, and assuming it's under 35mm (size of lens), you'll see the entire animal.

If you like camera lingo, people typically say 30-35mm focal length is around what the eyes see. I'd imagine it's comparable to a 210mm telescopic lens.
I have this exact pair since I was like 10 back in the mid-90's. They'll let you read a license plate from 100yds and see a person's face. No I was not a peeping Tom with these...

How is the magnification with these? I'm not familiar with what the 7x35 etc stuff means with optics. Looking for solid, long range binoculars for bird watching and hunting. Looking for like, Mega zoom.

These will work well for those activities..they are a bit large depending on how much hiking/distance you are covering. No idea what "Mega zoom" is but if you think they will work like you see in the movies that doesn't really exist.

These are sort of mid-range... they best you'll probably do at a reasonable price are 10x50.

Are these small and light enough to toss in my purse?
Or for a concert in the city?

If not, does someone onowledgable about binoculars have a recommendation?

Fully multi coated, this is plus. But not sealed. Which means depending what you use them for and where you are they will become foggy in 2-5 years unless you keep them in the dry box (and this is why warranty is only 2 years unlike sealed ones where it is lifetime).

Good price though.

I have this set on my boat. Decent for the money but really makes the several hundred dollar stabilized ones look good.

I also have the 10x50s in my desk at work (overlooks port, so I look at ships), and I much prefer those.
