Yeah, the 256 is what I want. Maybe BestBuy will price match out of stock?
Did people get the price match online or in person?
Costco, I think, does double the warranty but I'm not sure exactly how that works.

As far as Macs, people who don't want one shouldn't be looking for a deal on it. I can say that I paid $2000 for my first powerbooks back in the 1990's and when inflation is figured in these are dirt cheap.

Got the 128GB for $999+ tax. Seems plenty fast coming from a 2013 MacBook Air. Storage may be an issue in the future but there's always the cloud. FYI the OS does eat a good chunk of the 128GB - like almost 20-25GB; so you're close to 100GB in usable space

Most things are done through a browser on a pc so it's not a difference worth paying THREE TIMES more for. Neither is seamlessness or extra battery life.
Now way you can justify 1 MacBook is worth 3 HP 14-df0023cl laptops FOR 90% of users. That 90% windows vs 10% Mac is not mainly from business buys. That's ridiculous

I'll just leave the thread like I should have 2 posts ago, but stop over defending these dick squeezers.

It's clear. It's a premium product at a premium price which is why it has low value and market share. It's completely obvious.
You are basing your argument on the assumption that the $300 Chromebook is identical to the MacBook Pro. It offers a better screen, better build quality, better battery, better interconnectivity, and a better warranty. Aside from all of that, I value the time that I don't have to spend getting my hardware to work with one another, so I'll pay a little more for Apple, which does provide a better UX than Windows or ChromeOS. You might not value your time in the same way, so that might not matter to you. However, it's hard to argue the other points, but I'm sure you'll try.

I'm not talking about Some crap Chromebook

It's windows 10
i3 or i5 10th generation
1080p
128ssd
$279 or $289
I forgot

On front page from Costco

Yes Macs are badass
But your not paying "a little more"
Your paying 3-4 times as much for their 35% markup vs 6% HP
Their prices are complete bs

2x would be fine but 3-4x is ridiculous

Just peruse the forum and find all the comments about the build quality and report on how many folks decided to return the laptop after seeing it in person.

I am still having trouble understanding why the thread above has generated so much interest. EEK!

Picked up a 2019 MBP for $1050 256GB Versión a day ago at local Costco. They had just marked them down from $1199. YMMV local only.

2560x1600p vs 1920x1080p resolution
4 core i5 (3.9 GHz 6 MB cache) vs 2 core i3 (3.4 GHz 4 MB cache)
NVMe vs SATA M.2 SSD
8 GB vs 4 GB ram
Iris Plus 655(3x performance) vs UHD 620
6 cell vs 3 cell Battery
TouchID+T2 chip vs nothing
Aluminum vs Plastic

Pretty bad comparison. I just bought one Smilie
You pay what you get.. yours is really basic

That's how I feel about the 256GB. I honestly can't believe they still make a 128GB model. If you're really trying to go as budget friendly as possible, I think it's smarter to go with no TouchBar and get the bigger drive. Or, don't go with a MBP in the first place.
And it's $200 to go up to 256. For that cost can get a low-end 2TB NVMe drive, a very nice 1TB NVMe for $200, a really really nice 512GB NVMe, or an extremely high-end 256GB NVMe. It's absolutely absurd.

No different than cars - you can often pay 15K or more addition for the same car....for "trim" and other things you don't need.

People like my aging parents don't even know what any of those words (in your post) mean. They do know that they've never had to get their macs fixed.

I think the 899 and 999 are "loss leaders" in a sense for Apple - to pull in potential buyers who then spend the $200 more. It's not like they are really charging $200 for the memory - more like they are charging that for the total machine.

With PC's people are used to thinking "by the component" - i.e. "I'll get the X power supply the the Y video card". With Macs it's the whole package.....

Hey, if it doesn't suit you...then don't buy it. Time is money and an extra $10 or $15 a month over years for a machine that makes me a living (or more) isn't worth debating. Just like I don't mind if you drive an Audi even tho it's an overpriced version of my VW.

No, these things are not comparable and I reject your premise.

They have had to get it fixed if they got a single grain of dust under a key, and that was a $600 repair before Apple admitted they screwed up the keyboard and started doing it for free.

Apple does not do "loss leaders", please don't make things up to support your opinion.

They ARE charging $200 for the increased storage space, please don't flat-out lie to support your opinion.

The differential between a 128GB and 256GB NVMe (same brand, same model) is $25, $50, at the absolute most $100.

It is categorically absurd to charge a 100% premium on an upgrade.

You really should go to another type of site and debate your points and logic. This thread is about a deal on a particular machine or two.

BTW, I was in sales, importing, manufacturing and many other businesses and it's a common formula for products to sell for 300% to 400% the cost of manufacturing. In fact, it's quite typical.

In computing and in motor vehicles and in new housing, etc. - competition as we'll as what the market will bear has sometimes cut that to the bone. Many tech companies (Amazon) sell the razors at cost or below (kindle) so you will buy the blades (books, loyalty, etc.).

I'm mentioning these things as schooling, not as debate...since they are actual fact.

But, yeah, probably you would be better off debating your opinions about what free markets should buy and sell things for...other places than SD.

A standard Chevy Camaro is $26k with a 2.0L 4 cylinder engine. Same Camaro with a 6.2L supercharged V8 is $63k. Did it cost them $37k difference in manufacturing just for that engine and minor differences? Nah, it's called a business model.
