Always need to consider the transfer fee for balances transfers, and should be included in this post.

"There is a balance transfer fee of either $5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater."
EDIT FROM MAY 2021-- THIS POST IS TWO YEARS OLD. THE CARD IT MENTIONS IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO BE OPENED.

PLEASE STOP REPLYING TO A TWO YEAR OLD POST WONDERING WHY YOU CAN NOT FIND THIS SPECIFIC CARD/DEAL ANYMORE.

(above added after like the 6th person in a year necroed this discussion to reply to this post- original post from 2019 below)

Chase Slate is only 15 months but 0% balance transfer fee.

The slate itself sucks as a card to actually use for anything other than the BT, but if you're mainly concerned about the BT, and the 3 extra months won't kill you, it saves you 3% of however much you're transferring over this... plus once you're done with the BT you can product change it into a genuinely useful card like a Freedom or something.
After years of being on airline miles cards I switched to this card. I am very happy with it. Airline miles are worth an average of 1.3 cents per dollar spent these days. This card is worth 2 cents per dollar to me as a shopper. It takes VERY little effort to redeem the 2% cash back. I enjoy the value and simplicity of this card. I find the citi web site and mobile app to be stronger than alternative bank sites and apps. I don't have the time or desire to manage multiple cards.

Slickdeals gets a huge referral fee, like $100 or something is my guess.

0% ONLY on the Balance Transfer, not for purchases folks.

Don't make the mistake I did and assume it is for purchases (like many other cards) and pick up interest charges..

For all of those complaining about the "3% balance transfer fee", stop. Or at least break it down in a way that many others need to understand. I.e. a healthier way to look at this is - you're financing your transferred balance at a (locked, 2% APR rate). Because 3% @ 18 months = 2% APR for 18 months. That's SIGNIFICANTLY lower than what most people considering this promotion are looking to pay in interest on whatever credit card they're currently holding balances on.

Now, obviously, if you're so liquid you don't have a need for float your debt for a year or two, good for you. But saying crap like "I need to see a 60 month offer at a locked 2% rate" is asinine. There's not a single lending institution in this country that would offer a balance transfer loan for 60 months @ 0.4% APR rate (locked 2% for 60 months = 0.4% per year*).

It's really quite simple math people. And beyond that, it's common sense. Understand your audience, we're having a discussion on a bargain-finding website after-all. Geez.

I don't have any balances and would rather have a cash bonus. I do like the 2 percent though. Are there any alternatives?

Hi,

Can anyone tell us, how our credit history gets affected? if we cancel an approved credit card? By Mistake, I have applied for the card and got it approved. Dont need it anymore.

Thanks
First you take a small ding to your credit for the hard pull from the credit bureaus. Then you will take a moderate ding to your account for the new card lowering the average age of your credit history. I would suspect a 10 to 30 point hit right off the bat. Depending on how many credit accounts you have. But it will recover withing to or three months.
Your best bet is to just put the card up and only use it if an emergency arises. It will add more to your credit profile over the long term than just canceling it.

This card has never had a cash bonus. The 2% is a good deal. The Citi Double Cash is my "everything else" card. If a purchase doesn't qualify for a higher cash back offer like 5% on Chase Freedom or Discover It, it goes on this card. There's no other card offering 2%.

Every credit card should be 0% interest at least to you. The moment you pay interest you're losing.

Yes, it has. A $100 signup bonus has been offered on the card on and off going back at least 2 years... sometimes it's in-branch only, sometimes it's available online as well.

This is also incorrect.

Fidelity for example offers a 2% CB card-
https://www.fidelity.com/cash-man...ature-card

There's also a way to get 2.25% on everything via BoA but requires the highest status tier with them.

There's even one that offers 2.5%, though after the first year they charge an annual fee so it's not worth keeping past that unless you don't travel and spend a lot on non-category stuff.

And of course for those who DO travel the non-category cards that earn 1.5x chase UR or 2x Amex MR are likely better deals than a 2% CB card.

used to be a much better card before they removed all the good benefits:
  • extended warranty
  • travel interruption insurance
  • price protection
  • purchase (return) protection
still, the 2% is nice, and they're pretty generous with their credit line increases (though nowhere near as much as AMEX/Discover)

Any idea, if you currently have a citi flex loan, if you could do a balance transfer to this card?

Let me re-phrase. I haven't seen a 0% transfer charge on any credit card except my credit union's card for quite some time now. There's always a catch in any offers I've seen (and no, my credit isn't crappy...it's over 800).

Just an FYI, if you also have the CITI Premier or Prestige you can convert the cash back to rewards points instead. This effectively gets you 2pts/$1 spent. If you travel and know the tricks about redeeming points for airline tickets, then this is kind of a game changer.

Chase slate was legit 0%, no fees, for year and years and years.

Thought it appears to not be open to new applications as of VERY recently....

(it's a garbage card OUTSIDE of the absolutely free 0% balance transfer- though it could later be converted into a useful chase card like a freedom)

Meh.

Amex gives 2x MR points on their nicer blue business card.... and chase gives 1.5x more valuable UR points on both freedom unlimited and ink unlimited... and both have more/better transfer partners,

The best other use for Citi points used to be having both Prestige and Premier and stacking the 25% Premier hotel redemption bonus with 4th night free..... but that 25% bonus is going away- replaced with a $100 credit that DOES NOT stack with 4th night free.
