If this had touch screen and a 256gb ssd, I would've really gone for it since I'm not sure I wanna open up this laptop.

I measured the sRGB of this generation and previous gen and got these numbers:
Previous gen:
sRGB: 55.2%
Adobe RGB: 38.1%

Current gen:
sRGB: 57.4%
Adobe RGB: 39.6%
Thanks. So about the same? My eyes are probably sucky since I do not immediately notice a 90% SRGB vs a 60% SRGB.

Can someone else with stock configuration run Passmark and let us know your CPU score? I'm getting 7-8K, not the 9K+ the wiki states.
Quote from msk12 :
Mine hit 10K for the CPU Mark (79th percentile). I set the power profile to high performance and had it plugged in. My overall PassMark Rating was 4041.9 (77th percentile). I have no idea if these are good results or not.

Edit: just noticed you mentioned stock. Mine has a RAM and SSD upgrade.
I just ran my second test with stock hardware. The only difference this time is that I have the HP apps killed and I changed the power performance to high performance.

Well... the results came worse this time. CPU on the first try was at 8068, now it's at 8020. Everything dropped except for the RAM that went form a 1532 to a 1594. The biggest setback was with the HD, it went from 3709 to 3072. My overall rating dropped from 2924 to 2847. Maybe the HP apps are there for a reason, fan noise or not.

Now I'm about to install more RAM and a new nvme HD. I'll run these tests again after that and see what happens.

What's crazy for me is that my 5 year old desktop (i7 4790k) still beats the new kids on the block with a 9711 cpu mark. Not bad for an old ma... chine?

Anyone done a Read/Write test on this? (AS SSD Benchmark or similar)
Yesterday, Diskmark stock was 3709 for me. But today it dropped first to 3072 and then to 3038. Read was 516, write 146 and random was 176.

Thanks, really appreciate your testing. This confirms that the additional memory makes a big difference to the CPU score.

The low powered laptop CPU's like ones used here are generally far behind the desktop CPU's due to the cooling and power limitations.

Somehow reminds me of my surface pro 2 i5 4300U. It's snappy as hell for regular use but the display is bulging out from its body already.

Refurbs usually go $ 180-200. Decent computer to hide somewhere then connected to a large display.

Anyway, if this takes 3200mhz ram, wouldn't that give a massive boost for iGPU preformance since that is the main RAM of the iGPU coming from 2666? 20% boost?

Next good Samaritan that opens it up for upgrade, would you care to validate the following measurements for the screws under the rubber? I got this by making one of the pics to the same scale as the laptop and then holding the laptop in front of the screen, but confirmation would be nice. I'm cutting the feet where the screws are to make it easy for the next upgrade. Anyway here are the numbers.

Looking at the laptop facing down with the hinge away from you.
- There's one screw only under the nearest rubber strip. This screw is at exactly 91mm from the left edge of the rubber. Right or wrong?

- There are three screws under the upper rubber strip. Measuring form the left they are located at 10mm, 91mm, and 261mm. Right or wrong?

Thanks if you take the time to measure them.
OK, I'm being my own good Samaritan. The numbers are 10mm, 91mm and 265mm to the center of the screws. The other is at 92mm from the left.

Got one. Thanks. Since so many people jumped on this can we start putting links to suitable RAM deals in the Wocki?

Thanks for heads up.
It seems like Liquid metal is only good with copper heat sinks which this laptop does not have. So maybe I will repaste with a ragular ceramic paste such the Arctic MX4 suggested.

Oops I completely forgot that Copper Heat Sink is a Prereq. I have also heard good things about Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and Noctua NH 1 . You can give those two a try as well. Please do circle back with your results. I would be interested to know.
My laptop from Costco shipped today and will be delivered by Wednesday. Hopefully it will be an i5 as well.

Hello,

I would like to add 8 GB RAM. Can anyone suggest which one should I buy and from where? I prefer Amazon?

How difficult to install the RAM ourselves?

Thanks,

If you know how to build legos then you can do it! Just take the back cover off and just install it.

No shit! I installed a 16GB stick (total 20GB now) and the CPU passmark jumped to 9458 (from 8020). Memory mark is now at 2794. Disk mark (original disk) and 3D got better too, but 2D dropped a little. Overall my Passmark rating is now 3617, compared to 2847 a couple hours ago. Again, all I did was to add the RAM stick. I'll do the HD tomorrow as it's pretty late now and I need to figure out the best way to dual boot.

What it comes down to is that shipping any system with 4GB of memory these days is nothing more than a scam. Like putting a 40 proof liquor inside a 86 proof "capable" bottle and letting you figure out that you will have to add extra alcohol to get the buzz you were expecting.

Thank you for the quick reply. I have limited knowledge on RAM. Can you please let me know which MT/S, i need to buy?

THanks,
