How did you do the updates? Did you use media creation tool?
I did my updates through Windows Update as well as going to Device Manager and updating several of the components there. I know for sure there was a "Firmware" and a "Display adapter" update.

Check you wifi router to see if you can separate 2.4 ghz and 5ghz band. If you can then connect to 5ghz band.
correct! I could stop 2.4 gHz broadcast from router all together and get this connected to 5Ghz . My other devices with ac capability connect to 5ghz by default. I would like keep 2.4Ghz open, since I've got few legacy devices Smilie

OK, got two 16GB chips installed and here are the Passmark results.

Code:
Passmark ------ 4GB --- 16GB --- 20GB --- 32GB

Total 2924 3283 3576 3715
CPU 8068 9011 9813 10589
2D 637 573 652 593
3D 1068 1390 1635 1853
RAM 1532 2354 2442 2946
SSD 3709 3578 3256 3504
That's over 25% overall bump and 31% on the CPU alone. I'm sure the overall and SSD scores will benefit when I install the 500GB NVMe, but 2D seems stuck on that wobble (if anybody cares).

but did you try with 32GB 3200MHz CL16 RAM? xD that would crush the 11K mark

I ordered 2 of these online on Nov 9th and both were delivered today and both are i5 (verified by box label). Looking forward to opening then up and upgrading to 16gb RAM for now. Should be a good laptop for a middle schooler to do school work and who plays Minecraft.

just unboxed and was trying out the computer and noticed some things that others have mentioned, but one that no one has as far as I can see. on YouTube, videos will have a slightly discolored bar on the far left side of the player and it appears as though part of the video is overlaid and shifted to the right a slight bit. if you're looking in the middle of the screen it just looks like a blurry video but will also look like a 3D image without the 3D glasses on. this is just in video playback.

running updates right now and have tried different browsers and display settings. hoping it's not a hardware thing.

edit: ran updates, issue gone. moving on to the non-stop fan issue now...

You're posting poor terminology and concepts that will be confusing here to others. I know it's confusing to me. LOL.

In regards to total ram capacity, it is not accurate to state that "What most likely will happen ... is that the system defaults to the lower of the two." Are you saying if one 8gb stick is installed in slot 1 and one 4gb stick is installed in slot 2, the laptop will disregard the 8gb stick's capacity and default to the lower 4gb? If so, that makes zero sense and is entirely untrue.

What does make sense and is true is that when you have dual channel ram installed in each slot, the system will perform better in dual channel mode compared to only a single stick installed.

Additionally, matched pairs of ram in dual channel will often perform better than unmatched.

Furthermore, as you briefly noted, installing sticks of ram with different frequencies will typically cause the system to operate at the value of the lower frequency ram, which is the about the only part of your post that you stated accurately.

The bottom line is that one can safely install sticks of ram with different capacity, frequency, brands, etc. and still show significant improvement vs. a single small capacity stick. To optimize performance, a matched pair of dual channel ram is preferred.
hi
can i just get Crucial 8GB Single DDR4 2666 MT/s. I do not have need of updating to 16 gb but adding 4gb that came with laptop and new 8gb ,will that pose a problem?
