I have this instead.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FSH12Z3/
(wow, it is just $15 now with the coupon. I paid more with Lightning deals)

which comes with HDMI port as well. I can try it tonight and let you know if that works.
Someone in this comment said that the USB-C in this laptop does not support display/power. So perhaps the product you linked me to will not work? Please let me know once you try it. Thanks.

Will doubling the ram to 8gb improve 3d graphics performance somewhat?

As-is my laptop is struggling to run CS:GO at medium detail- totally understand that this isn't a gaming laptop but CS:GO isn't generally considered to be a graphically demanding game (plus other benchmarks with the Iris Plus G4 put it at 60+ fps on medium)

My theory is that 4gb isn't enough for any games that use onboard GPU since it's sharing RAM with the CPU.

Aside from adjusting fan settings, another option is to UNDERVOLT this laptop if the fan is bothersome. Granted, if you're doing heavy calculations like photo or video editing, you probably want to maintain the original voltage.
- Intel XTU
- Throttlestop

Just search "laptop undervolting guide".
I haven't tried it, but it could balance out the issues and it is configurable where you can enter different PROFILES of when to undervolt, overvolt, keep standard.
*** WARNING: make changes to the CPU voltage at your own risk. ***
XTU doesnt work for this gen intel CPU.. yet i dont F with Throttle stop otherwise i would do -.50

doubt it would help, since even repasting doesnt lower it more than 2-3° as someone did it and said so..

its just a crappy single fan on top of a small heatpipe in cramped envipoment..

you wont help it much, good thing is, if ut fails costco should honor warranty.. up to 2/4 years?

yes, because dual channel aswell, you looking at like 15-20% extra performance in games even adding just a stick of 4GB

I purchased one in-store last night; it says right on the box that it has an i5 in it.

It is also plenty fast out of the box, even with 4GB memory.

I was contemplating purchasing more, but HP's build quality on this laptop is making me thing twice. The internals are great, mind you (fast CPU, NVME, upgradeable memory/storage).
The externals feel cheap all around, including the keyboard and trackpad.

For those who say "what do you expect for $280", I would respond by saying low-end Lenovos are built like ThinkPad-lites, and the chassis/keyboard/trackpad on even the $130 Lenovo 14w far surpasses the HP (Lenovo mil-tests their education and enterprise laptops). If you mil-tested this HP, you would be picking up pieces off the floor.

Cheers

This has to be the most scrutinized and discussed sub-$300 laptop in the history of Slickdeals. People act like they are buying a $1300 laptop. laugh out loud

Okay, I will try it and let you know.

Also, if you really need to have one more monitor and the USB-C adapter won't work, this may help.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A2E1MQA/

I have this in my work computer (extra small form factor Dell Optilex) which only support 2 monitors by default (2 display ports). And I was able to add an 3rd monitor via the USB3 port with this adapter. Performance wise, it is not bad for office work. No lagging on video nor other office related stuff. Basically I do not feel any differences in terms of speed between all 3 monitors with that USB display adapter.

OK, got two 16GB chips installed and here are the Passmark results.
CodeStick Out Tongueassmark ------ 4GB --- 16GB --- 20GB --- 32GB --- 500GB NVMe(32GB)

Total 2924 3283 3576 3715 4188
CPU 8068 9011 9813 10589 10517
2D 637 573 652 593 653
3D 1068 1390 1635 1853 1712
RAM 1532 2354 2442 2946 2666
SSD 3709 3578 3256 3504 21405 That's over 25% overall bump and 31% on the CPU alone. I'm sure the overall and SSD scores will benefit when I install the 500GB NVMe, but 2D seems stuck on that wobble (if anybody cares).

Images below (updated with 500GB NVMe installed)
Post #1253 showing a very awesome post from user WoWa. You can see that ram is the limiting factor in getting the most out of the i5 CPU.

Edit: Whoops. the formatting is messed up.

Getting a $1300 laptop for $1300 isn't a Slickdeal.

And even in this case, we're talking about getting a $450 laptop for $280. 37% off isn't earth shattering.

Can anyone comment on if the second cradle can be used to install another sad?

Also for the fan what about the after market USB external modules? Maybe that'll chill things.

Any chance we could just replace the inside fan with something kick ass?
