Good price but a lot of Amazon reviews saying it is made of cheap plastic and the headset starts falling apart in six months. That's the reason stopping me from buying it. 😳
I've had mine for 3 years. Yes, they're fragile, especially at the hinges. As long as you're gentle putting them on, and I mean slow motion opening them just enough to put on your head, you should be fine.

Not for big headed people.
Are both of you talking about the previous Gold headset? Because it would totally fall apart.
The newer models are still made with plastic, but it's sturdier. They've only been out since 2018. I'd recommend them. They won't blow you away, but I don't think you'll find a better headset for under $60. You could up your price and get better, obviously, and I'm not sure they're the best buy at MSRP ($100), but at $60 (or less if you have some urlhasbeenblocked points sitting around), the 2018 model is a super solid buy.

I never close them but no durability issues being dropped often over 3 years, the older model too which was supposed to be worse at hinges. Have this model too and it's much more light weight, great sets for the price

Thats what happened to me, I bought the newer 2018 version and I liked them for a while but months later they literally just fell apart on me one day. The reason is the band is cheap plastic underneath with a seam right down the middle that weakens over time until it just falls apart. I took very good care of them & never traveled with them so it was a surprise. That seam is a terrible flaw, the headband is not one solid piece like it looks, underneath its just two cheap plastic pieces meld together.
Also they squeeze my head and I have a small head with no hair. I'll never buy junk plastic Sony headphones again.
I bought the Arctis 7 afterward and its so much stronger with the metal & fabric band and its much softer too. I highly recommend trying to get these on sale even if they cost a little more, they will last.
Had these for a year now,
the mic is kinda bad, it uses micro usb to charge which is slow, but you can charge and still listen at the same time, and make sure you don't lose the wireless adapter. my pair still looks mint, no strap damages.
it excels if you have a ps4 and use the 7.1 surround, i'd assume it would work for the ps5 as well.
My original set lasted me quite a few years. The sound is good on them too. I did try these and they are better quality than the original. Like others had happen, the original did eventually crack. I put some tape on and they're still functioning. Preferred these over the Turtle Beach that I had. I did upgrade to the platinum which has a metal band.
Worth noting these work well on an Xbox One when connecting to the controller with the 3.5mm cord.
I am wondering what sort of audio the PS5 will have. If 3D audio chip will be present in the console, will these headphones be able to use it? Or will they issue another newer pair?
I know the platinum headset does 3D audio, albeit with a very limited amount of games, but its 3D chip is in the headset. I've heard the PS5 will have the 3D chip in the console.
This doesn't invalid some people's legitimate issues with the headband, but I've been using these for over a year as my main PC headphones and I haven't had any issues with the band cracking. I have a very large head so I'm pretty careful putting them on and taking them off.
Haven't had any issues with sound quality and I love not having a boom mic in my face.
