FWIW, I bought this camera, not on sale, for surveillance purposes outdoors and indoor. Mind you im on the basic package so I didn't have any features such as 24/7 monitoring, etc. I like the magnetic swivel mounts on these. The resolution is also fantastic, has a good wide angle, and it can pick up pretty good audio.

However, I do not like that there is a delay of video capturing triggered by motion. There is at least a 2 second delay to these to start capturing. If the object in video is moving at a fast speed or turns a corner outside of the viewing angle, chances are that the Arlo will not capture the "moment" of things happening. The Arlo does pick up motion pretty well, so if you have a long hallway or driveway, it'll detect motion and start recording once the target is in your hallway, not entering. For that reason, I'm returning and looking for an installer to install a NVR/PoE system.

Hi CrimsonScent and others

FYI - the ability to capture license plates during the day so that you're able read them depends on how many effective pixels you can get on the license plate. While higher resolution is better for this - remember it is effective pixels on target.

The 4K cameras from Arlo have very wide FOVs, which reduces the "range" - and with compression to reduce cloud storage and bandwidth you get less effective pixels.

For a better idea of how FOV camera resolution affects the theoretical ID distance ( and also license plate reading ability ) see the ID distance chart in
https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99

Also - night time license plate capture is challenging due to the reflective nature of plates - so you will need to custom tune the camera to just capture plates to read. ( see ipcamtalk lpr section for more info on this )

I don't know about range, but main difference is it doesn't have built-in siren and cannot connect Arlo Pro 3 cameras. The small base station is either 3000 or 3500 model. See KB article here: https://kb.arlo.com/000062284/Wha...se-station

Yes.
But I am wondering which one should I make as my base station.
Somebody earlier said that this does not include the siren and the usb port.

Hi reubenroy

Did they ever update the firmware on the Gen-1 base station to allow the USB port to be used for storage? If not, I'd go with the newer base station. ( also the gen-1 base station did not have a siren )

Hi Chasewfahn

The Ubiquiti IP PoE cameras will be far superior for reliability and image results.

The ubiquiti appears to be a far superior system, but is also on a superior price point. You're looking at way more for that system than this.

About $93.33 per camera for this Costco deal vs $100 per camera for Best Buy. Also throw in taxes.

I caution everyone, you really need a 4k camera to see details like a license plate. I'm getting the 4k version with 3 cameras at Sam's club. $719
Is that deal live now? Link please. Thank you!

Seems like a good deal on a good product. I've been on fence for a while. My need is basic monitoring at the front and the back of the home.

Wondering why the Costco reviews are all negative?

New base station? Any improvements over the previous version? I don't find any reviews.
