For those looking for a NAS... This one comes with QVR Pro, which gives you 8 free camera licenses. The other NAS I was looking at that's currently on the front page is the
TS-253Be, but that one doesn't come with QVR Pro. That's why I picked this NAS.

Hope this helps someone!
There are deals on 4-bay QNAP NASs at Adorama and B&H photo, both posted on SD. Below are the specs from the respective websites. I'm not competent to talk about how much difference there will be between the two for transcoding and other tasks. I just wanted to see what the differences were.

2 G ram expandable to 8 G 2 slots total
2 X gigabit ethernet

2 x USB type-a 2.0
Raid: 0,1, 10, 5, 6, JBOD

33.88 W typical
15.78 W standby

TS-453B (Adorama) $359
Intel HD Grpahics 500
Intel Celeron J3455 quad-core 1.5 GHz, up to 2.3 GHz
Ram: 2G installed, 8G maximum (2 slots)

B&H Photo Video has the QNAP TVS-951X NAS for $500!
This is $50 less than the previous Front Page deal in June of $549.

I don't need a NAS that plays/transcodes video, I use Kodi for that. All I want is a basic NAS with >4 drives that does fast transfers.

Anyone recommend something like this?

Well, this 4 bay is "pretty basic" nowadays, but you could always look for an older model or just build one with an old PC by installing Xpenology on it. If I were going to purchase a NAS, I'd look at the Synology models vs the QNAPs.

The NAS in this post are fine for that purpose.

If you really want to go barebones, you could just use a Raspberry Pi. Assuming you are tech savvy.

If it helps, Plex has a list of NAS devices and their software/hardware transcode capabilities.
