For gaming I would get a 7200rpm drive with a dedicated power supply (desktop drive not portable). Can you use this for gaming? Sure. Will it be slow? Yes.

I wouldn't buy this for gaming. Its designed to be a backup and file storage drive.

I bought this for "storing games". Will be transferred back and forth. I couldn't see a speed difference can you let me know speed difference ballpark. I was ignorant thinking usb 3.0 would be the limitation.

Isn't it as fast as usb 3.0?
I went with this instead with Amex offer.

As an aside, the USB thumbdrive filler linked is USB 2.0. If a couple of extra bucks is not going to break your wallet, there's a USB 3.0 version [staples.com] of the NXT Technologies as well. I personally went with this Lexar [staples.com] filler for $9. Figured if I'm going to get it and potentially use it, it should be as decent as can be for minimal increase in price. Seems like a small price to pay to go from 2.0 to 3.0.
