For this price, in for one! Why not ...giving my Lenovo Flex 14 to my father since he actually uses his laptop like a tablet.

my opinion:

I have a macbook air 2013. I also have MSI GF75 gaming laptop 17 inch.

I was thinking of picking this up for extended travel, to be able to game once in awhile. I saw the benchmarks - you can game, but at 25-40 fps on 720p mostly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCp8DGLD56s

Ive done that..ive done that on my macbook air even for older games.. its doable.

But after gaming laptop where everything is on 1080p and high/ultra.. i just dont want to. I dont want to play apex legends on 14 inch screen at 720p.

and if this thing breaks during my travels outside US... ????? and with it being flimsy and tabs probably breaking within a few years im leaning towards pass.

That said if i didnt have a gaming laptop Id be on this

Again I bought and returned before any drivers were posted. I may try again, but re-install windows from scratch now that we are able to. I am not the only one to get a lemon (I mean we can all see the reviews on the walmart site).
...
It runs slower than it should (benchmark it, I did, and there are others out there). It comes in slower than that CPU should. Possibly slow BUS speeds on the MB and/or RAM, I don't know why.
...
Why did you waste your time reinstalling Windows, or at least make a backup? (Especially, if you weren't able to download the necessary drivers first.)

It's a machine with single channel memory, Ryzen processors shine with fast RAM, so the lower than typical benchmark numbers across the board make sense. This shortcoming has me waiting on a better configuration, although the price is nice on this laptop.

3000 series were the intermediate mobile processors on the Picasso line (12nm).
The actual Zen2 won't be out until 2020 and they'll be 7nm.
Given Intel's issue with 10nm, I wonder if the 7nm will have any production issues.
Again, AMD will best Intel once they come out.

Regardless, they may be more energy efficient due to smaller size, but at 15W (max 30W for short bursts), no laptop can compete long term with desktops for CPU/GPU intensive software. You're better off with a desktop or dedicated GPU laptop.
Your comment is confusing, Zen 2 7nm is already out with the desktop line of 3000 series processors. 3000 series APUs are actually Zen+ and 12nm. Their desktop lines don't have much problem with production, so I doubt their APUs will especially when they switch process from 7nm to 7nm+ for desktop freeing up space for 7nm (regular) production

A+ reading comprehension laugh out loud

I said I bought and returned BEFORE drivers, I said maybe now I would try again now that drivers are posted, to start with a fresh windows build.

Does the R3 version also have backlit keyboard, and do you know it can do hdmi output 4K @60hz like the R5? Thanks

Wow. I bought the ryzen 3 version for $250 around BF, but for another $50 I'll upgrade to this ryzen 5 version.

I've been very happy with the Ryzen 3 version of the laptop (which is also discounted to $229 down from $249), but the graphics on the Ryzen 3 laptop are only barely better than Intel.

Seriously?... 10-15 years sysadmin/engineer and you don't know how to backup?... Perhaps you should just keep that on the down low.

Is anyone ordering this actually planning to use it as a main laptop, or just as some secondary thing?

For $10 more, the Lenovo Ideapad 330s seems like a better deal if you don't care too much about portability.. Dual memory and larger screen.
Pretty sure the 330s is single channel memory too...

Lenovo 330s Ryzen 5 2500u

8GB DDR4 2400 MHz RAM (4GB OnBoard soldered + 4GB SO-DIMM) memory

What app to remove if I am using the stock OS and not reinstalling?
None! The OS is bone stock and no bloatware. There's no need to do a fresh install.

Q: Does the R5 come with 1x 256gb SATA, or 2x 128gb SATA?

I ask because a walmart.com review says it' s a single drive while your pics have the 2x128s. Wouldn't put it past you to swap some around your handful of these though... laugh out loud
1x256GB SATA

That was me just playing around with different configurations.

Yes the r3 has a backlit keyboard and it reportedly does 4k @ 60hz over HDMI though I'm unable to test myself.
