Got mine really liking everything except the backlight bleed in the bottom left is horrendous. Anyone else?
Dido I saw it on mine but figured it wasn't so bad that it's not usable

some of us have a fetish of installing O/S.. Wink. I also like to consolidate and do my own hard drive partition to eliminate any hidden partition eating up space.

No real issue. I might not be getting the on screen indicator for some of the function status, but pretty much all the functions still work.

I'm gonna be extra paranoid with mine as I already bought a nvme drive and memory. Might back up the os then replace the drive. If I have any issues with a fresh install I can revert back to stock.

Do you plan on upgrading the WiFi card, as I've heard it's not good.

Get ready to have your head taken off for doing that. At least by one participant (and it's not me...)

just upgraded mine to 32GB ram with this:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-26...op?ie=UTF8

worked great. probably the cheapest if not one of the cheapest 32gb sodim you can find out there. I actually bought another one also for another laptop.

you can never have enough ram. you might ask what's the point of anything more than 8gb ram?
well, with a lot of ram, you can completely disable the virtual memory and completely run from ram.

also I use ramdisk software which create a virtual ram based disk. ultrafast access time order of magnitude faster than ssd. the 4k read write speed is also multiple times faster as is the transfer speed. I set the system and windows temp folder to the ramdisk under environment variable. a lot of the temp files are now on the ramdisk...

also save wear on your ssd...

There's the reason for more than 16gb ram...

No, most didn't. There's no reason to, and you lose some software functionality. And a few that did created problems they weren't smart enough to fix, so returned them, to become someone else's problem. Nice Enough of that drives up the price wouldn't one think?

For those of you that wants to spend a bit more, i have a suggestion for another subcompact:

https://slickdeals.net/f/13732751-lenovo-thinkpad-l390-13-laptop-512-10-tax-13-3-fhd-ips-i5-8265u-touchscreen-8-gb-ddr4-128-gb-ssd-win-10-pro?p=133523066#post133523066

Lenovo L390. 13.3 inch 1080p touchscreen. TWO sodimm slots, TWO usb C with PD and DP video! 45whr battery claim to last over 10hrs. it uses i5-8250u (wish it was ryzen). all for $512. if you have student discount you can get it for a bit cheaper.
