i get same result on second slot. i have a samsung nvme and i noticed in windows no nvme controller driver gets installed. i installed samsung's nvme storage driver but it did not change the speed. in linux the samsung module loads but the speed is the same around 450. same drive in my asus reads 3500. it may be that if the sata slot was empty you might see the normal speeds. for my use it is not a big deal.

The bios update ran on its own. I woke up this morning to a completely black screen, I can hear the fan running, but nothing else. Frown

Anyone got an idea how to fix it

This is an image of a M142 heat sink with excess, poor quality paste from a YouTube video.
The plate between the paste and copper is aluminum.

What are all the specific issues you had with clean install? did you use the latest drivers directly from amd after the clean install as well as running the windows update after install?
I thought I lost some programs, but I later discovered they were reinstalled during Windows Update.

That's weird... but no other issues? restart and shutdown using windows menu fine? how about using the sleep option in windows menu? does this wake from sleep screen problem happen every time now or just intermittently?
The lack of backlight makes it hard to see anything other than the login screen. I have a dark theme set. The login screen seems to be fully functional.
After reboot everything works fine.
It seems to happen reliably if I let it sleep long enough. So it may actually be hibernated.
I just installed the AMD 20.1.3 software to try to fix this. I had the high cpu usage problem. This is fixed by make a folder called "Radeon ReLive" in the videos folder.

So we all heard about the fact that this single channel ram supposed to slow down the vega8 by a lot up to 25% some says....

I found at least one benchmark where it might not be that much of a difference between single and duall channel ram on a laptop. Look at these two laptops on userbenchmark:

https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/24388316
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/24449687

I know these benchmarks are using directx9 and 10 only. so maybe directx 11 and 12 stuffs might be different? But at least for some older games and stuffs, the difference between single and dual channel ram for vega8 might not be as much?

The single channel ram does slow it down a bit. The better, more clear point is that if gaming is your priority, the appropriate laptop is one with dedicated graphics.

I have seen this topic discussed every possible different way, people vowing not to buy this model laptop due to it etc... Here is the plain truth, even with dual channel present and working to full effect, the ryzen APU is still not enough for proper gaming on a laptop. Yes, it will run some casual titles, but seriously, it's not enough. This loops us back around to the real purpose of the Motile 141 and 142, as an ultra light laptop for general purpose use.

BTW I'm on bios 1.06 and ec 1.08, also my nvme in slot 2 is running through sata and not pcie like it should. Crystaldiskmark is showing speeds slightly worse then the included sata ssd. I have another nvme coming in a day to test, until then i appreciate any feedback
Update: still doesnt work. no matter what i do slot one will not accept nvme. i have tried 2 different nvme drives from different makers, booted multiple times to windows and back, with and with-out slot 1 occupied in many different sequences and configurations, but to no avail. i don't have a m.2 sata drive and would really like to get nvme working for slot 1. Ill keep my eyes on this forum, thanks again for all the nice info.

anyone did a newwin10 install on the motile in uefi secure mode?

I did mine in legacy unsecure boot mode, but I am wondering if it's possible to install a clean win10 uefi install. would there be a problem with the key being inside the bios?

You can change the key to a different , valid purchased key, however any time you attempt to reinstall windows it will automatically detect the OEM key from the license table in the bios.

Yep! Single channel is really a non-issue. This is not a gaming notebook.

The reason i ask is because i sstill don't have an answer to why if i do 10 restarts in a row, i would catch it at least once hanging after the blue screen saying restart and then it would not go to the bios boot screen but just stay frozen. Other than that, sleep, awake from sleep, shutdown and turn on, etc all works fine without any crash while using.

even my guess about uefi boot is just a guess for a fix. i don't know if it will fix this problem. maybe there is a magic driver that i didn't install after a clean win install? I did install all the windows updates as well as latest drivers directly from amd.

I have another m142 with the default oem win10 and it doesn't hang doing 10+ restart in a row.

i don't think my motile with the clean win10 is defective but its just so weird it's doing that.....

What are you trying to achieve here? I have the 970 Evo Plus in 250GB variant in the second slot and working fine. Slot occupied by the original m.2 drive is SATA based while the unoccupied slot is PCIE running x2. NVME cannot even communicate in the SATA slot, Ive tried with two NVME but only the second slot shows up in the bios. YOU have a sata m.2 and its the one that came with your device.

im trying to run 2 nvme drives because several people have done so, If i hadn't seen proof to the contrary i would be on your side. my slot one will not accept nvme at all and acts as a pure sata slot. look through these forums or watch some vids, many users have got nvme in slot 1 at 4x. I think its a bios/ec issue, i have a feeling that i updated bios/ec to fast and nvme slot 1 was available before the flashes. Thanks for any info.
