This is a decent phone. I got one for my 12yr old so she can have a smart phone with out breaking the bank. Also, she almost exclusively uses text messages and a 1500 text refill at Walmart.com is only $5.

Use this as a backup phone to my AT&T service. Works fine as a 2nd phone. Data & mins. last all year for me.

I bought Samsung J7(Tmobile network) from Tracfone for my father. It is a decent phone for a light user. My father uses only Youtube app and phone call. No complain at all.
But seems like this J7(Verizon network) is somewhat different than J7(Tmobile network).
What I remember is that J7(Tmobile network) only 6.0.1 or 7.0.0. No Oreo.
Also J7(Tmobile network) has Removable battery.
Lastly, no Samsung Pay with the J7(Tmobile network).

Except you wouldn't have a year of phone service included, which is enough for some people. Like me prior to using Verizon prepaid for my home internet (no cable or dsl available, only satellite or Verizon w.).

No.
I tried to put MintSIM(Tmobile network) SIM card into J7(tmobile network). I got error message that unrecognized SIM card.
After my dad used all data and talk time, I purchased Tracfone 1-Year Prepaid Smartphone Plan w/ 1200 Min, 1200 Txt & 3GB Data $40(Tmobile network) and insert into current J7. It worked without any unlocking process, just changed the tracfone SIM card.
So seems like it is tied with only Tracfone SIM card.

I meant if it was possible to use a Verizon sim in a Verizon-Tracfone device or a Tmobile sim in a Tmobile-Tracfone device.

No, it's locked to Tracfone for 12 months of service just like all Tracfones.

if you talk less than 4 minutes a day and don't use texts or data i guess it MIGHT work
