Pissed - scammed on eBay/PayPal

402 14 December 21, 2019 at 03:11 PM eBay
Sold download codes for Fallen Order on eBay since I didn't feel like selling locally on CL.

Sold fast via Buy It Now; got the money; sent the codes. Now buyer is disputing via PayPal.

Such garbage and pisses me off so much. Mad Mad Mad Mad

I should know better to trust the internet or people, but eBay / PayPal basically have a system set up to enable fraud with zero to no recourse.

I can only hope that whomever the buyer is that they try to scam someone with dox-like tendencies.

Didn't get it. What was the scam?
PayPal suppose to be secure for paying isn't it? Because you can open a dispute.

Never sell anything on eBay. You are screwed from the beginning.

Learned this years ago.

It's become worse but it's still okay to use. OP didn't expect to have someone cheat him and that's mistake #1.

Amazon is not much better from what I recall of my time on there. Just browsing the seller forums alone it was obvious that many of them had a defeatist attitude. Somebody could be asking if they should fight an A-Z claim filed by a customer on five year old worn out sneakers (bought new 5 years ago) and the majority of the responses would be 'refund and move on'. The case I just mentioned (worn out sneakers) was actually one of the ones I just shook my head on on the forums.

Some customers (and I use that term loosely) seem to expect a Costco type return policy (return shit forever) and to never have to pay a dime to ship back anything even if it's THEIR fault for wanting a return (don't like it).

The biggest thing that worked against sellers on there though are the Amazon customer service reps who seemed to love to file A-Z claims that were way outside of policy. EVERY LAST ONE of those claims dings a seller unless they manage to successfully argue their case. That's why so many of the sellers bent over backwards for even the most ridiculous customers.

Ebay does NOT cover digital items. Many people sell them, and most buyers are good. However, if they dispute it then you have NO proof that it's delivered since it's digital.

Time to /ignore this thread and move on.

here's an idea, call EA and tell them my code appears to have been used. Tell them the code and have them deactivate it as a stolen code.

You might not get your money back but at least you get to break off part of a stick in the buyer backside.

Sellers get screwed way too often on Amazon and Ebay.
Used to sell a good amount of things there but scammer proportion increased a lot and both Amazon and Ebay side 99.9999% with the buyer regardless of how ridiculous it is.
There's still a good amount of decent buyers, so if you're a big business/seller you just accept it as the cost of business. But if you're small potatoes seller, a couple of unlucky transactions can wipe out profits from your last 10 sales easily.

Stopped selling on Ebay and Amazon. Now I only deal in person and cash only. WAY smaller market but I don't get screwed either.

Feel your pain OP. Sadly nothing effective that you can do about it.

Satisfied by that outcome. Code is useless and I ended up with the game. Learned my lesson and will just play it Wink

The $40 is not too important at all. It's most annoying to me as it increases the net price of my great deal on the X, but I'm still happy to have the X despite the new one getting announced the day after I bought it (dumb marketers to crap on the holiday season).

Thanks all for reading this and replies. Agree entirely with @sc2 - I'm now cash only. Just sold a few things on CL. Gave some people a good price, got rid of some stuff, they're happy, I'm happy and far easier to detect scams/flakes.
