It's WAY better than a regular blender. It has a great warranty and will last a while. It liqufies REALLY well and pretty fast. VERY well built. To me, this is the "KitchenAid" of blenders.
We have the 5200 model from Costco and snagged the $150 low-profile red deal a few months ago (Thanks SD). Bases are nearly identical but the container is lower and allows for placement under the kitchen cabinets. Love both of em, but use the low-profile container more often.
As I said earlier. this is WAY better. I'd rather get a $300 blender that will last 20 years than 4 cheap blenders that will last the same amount of time, especially since these work so much better. Its like getting a 4K TV that lasts 20 years as opposed to a few 720p TVs that each get 5 years. Sure, you've spent the same amount over the time, but got much more bang for your buck with the 4K.
Lastly, I have a KitchenAid that was used almost daily for over 20 years, and it NEVER failed. We actually had 2 (and at one point 3) because they were used soooo often because my mom made wedding and other cakes (she would have killed it on cake-boss if that existed back then). Go figure: when Mom goes to meet The Lord, her kids are fighting over who gets the KitchenAids. They lasted forever and are still work today after 40 years. That is where I see this Vitamix. We have made PLANTAIN flour with our 5200. A Ninja or other 'high-powered' blenders cannot handle turning dehydrated plantain into flour. That's the main reason we bought our 5200- to make gluten-free flour!! It DOES require a "DRY CONTAINER' which has different blades, so dont expect this model to do that without buying the dry container. My point is that these things will stand up to HEAVY use and work like no other blenders. Looks at commercial kitchens and they use these. Look at the news and cooking TV shows (or infomercials) and you will notice that they all use KitcheAids and Vitamix machines. Sorry for this insanely long post- hope it helped someone.

The red one was $150 like 10 months ago, but that price is very rare.

I have an older model with the tall pitcher. Shortly after I purchased it they came out with the shorter models. I asked a Vitamix representative if I could just swap out the pitchers and was told that they are NOT interchangeable unfortunately.
