Unless you are in a hurry, you are much better off looking for a deal on an Intel 8th gen processor, which is 4 cores/8 threads (e.g. i5-8250u) compared to 2 core/4 threads (e.g. i5-6300u), resulting in much better performance.

Exactly; this is a pretty old model with a dual-core processor; it has non-USB-C charging, too, although it also accepts PD through USB-C as well; the only cool thing about it is great weight (about the same as X390), as well as 1 socket for 16GB officially or 32GB unofficially (total of 4GB + 32GB = 36GB, and you'll have 1x of 4GB stick lying around extra).

Seriously, if you need a magnesium enclosure and a $100 DYI for a lightweight dual-core machine with 36GB RAM, this is probably it! Sadly, the new T490 isn't magnesium (only the reinforcement is), and T490s is still magnesium, but doesn't have any sockets (so, the sales would probably be limited to a total of 8GB for a while).

Personally, I think T480s would be a better option — it's same weight, also had one socket, but is quad-core; it's also been on sale recently, although for quite a bit more than T470s. Quite sad that T490s doesn't have any DDR4 sockets.

Coulda swore I charged my T470 work computer with USB-C (it's an option to, not the standard charger)

Both T470 and T470s accept PD through USB-C, per PSREF, as do all the newer ThinkPads as well (not sure about the ones before).

I believe this model probably has the "45W slim tip AC adapter".

Have a couple of T480(s) myself... Best compromise for me, particularly regarding memory and battery options...

Again wouldn't consider anything less than an 8th gen... Best laptop performance jump since SSDs Smilie

I'd bite at $300 for this but nothing over. Its a decent screen but this CPU is horrible. the old U series before the 8th gen is a joke.

I have a 6200 laptop and it can output 4k via HDMI but only at the lightest and lowest bitrate making it unusable for decent 4k output, this is why I want to upgrade but laptop prices were SHIT this season.. most with dedicated gpu were over $1k.. f that!! Greedy bastards..

This is a horrible deal, why is this on SlickDeals much less the front page?
The processor is 4 generations old, I've seen deals on computers with both the current gen AMD Ryzen Processor Equivalent (Ryzen 5) and the 9th/10th gen intel i5 with the same amount of RAM and SSD storage (and more) for this price and less.

This is not a good deal, this is buying old hardware for way more than it's worth.

Yeah just came here to comment on 6th gen Intel cpu with more battery consumption and less power than 8th gen for roughly the same price

It's tough to compare a think pad t series or dell latitude to a consumer level machine. Just purchased 4 of these for a practice.
