AT&T PREPAID: 8GB Online Offer - $25 monthly when prepaid $300 for 12 months

AT&T PREPAID now has an online only offer of the 8GB plan when prepaid $300/12mos, comes to $25/mo + Taxes & Fees. Its actually a 360 days plan with each Month being 30 days.

https://www.att.com/buy/wireless/...lect-plans

This includes tethering and roll-over of unused data for the next 1Mo cycle, i.e. only the next-cycle.

There seems to be a $4.99 (+ tax) additional price for the SIM.

Price-wise its not that great a deal but I'm hoping to get top-notch data-speeds as compared to other plans from the MVNOs. Can people with experience with AT&T Prepaid service please comment?

DETAILS:

Plan Details ‒ $25 8GB Promo Plan

Online offer. Requires new activation. Service available for 360 days upon first payment of $300. Plan renews every 30 days for 12 renewal periods. The $300 advance payment is non-refundable in whole or in part. Next service payment due at 11:59 p.m. CT on the 360th day.

Talk: Includes unlimited calling in and between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
Messaging: Includes unlimited text, picture, and video messaging within the U.S., Mexico, and Canada and from the U.S., Mexico, and Canada to over 100 countries. See countries at www.att.com/prepaidintltext.

Data: Includes data usage in the U.S, Mexico, and Canada with the first 8GB high speed; thereafter, data speeds reduced to max of 128Kbps for the rest of the term. See www.att.com/broadbandinfo for details. International data roaming may be reduced to 2G speeds. Data Add-Ons for use in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada are available for an additional charge (3GB for $20, 1GB for $10) and are good for 30 days.

Mobile hotspot: Use is allowed.

Rollover Data: Unused high-speed data from plan carries over for one term, expires with any plan change, and is used after plan's high-speed data allowance and any data Add-On. Not available for use in Mexico or Canada. Restrictions apply.

Video Streaming: Stream Saver® is included on this plan. Stream Saver allows you to save data by streaming higher definition video at Standard Definition quality (about 480p) on compatible devices (unless the video provider has opted out). AT&T will activate it. You may then turn it off or back on at any time at att.com/myprepaid. Stream Saver will not recognize all video content. Ability to stream and video resolution may vary and be affected by other factors. Rest's apply. See att.com/streamsaver for details.

Sponsored Data: Sponsored Data is included in this plan. With Sponsored Data, you can browse, stream, and enjoy content from our data sponsors on a compatible device while using the AT&T domestic wireless network without impacting your monthly data balance. Turning Sponsored Data off doesn't prevent access to data or any content. It will result in high-speed data usage being charged against your plan data. A high-speed data balance is required to initiate a Sponsored Data session.

Here's a link to the Wiki of an older thread (now marked expired for whatever reason and did not show up in searches) that contains detailed steps and lists of best-practices to obtain this deal with a more pleasurable experience than self-exploration - Thanks to fishyx for the link:

Sounds like a useful set of steps to note: post#123

Ultra Mobile from TMobile is offering 6GB per month for $162 per year, plus some tax.
Limited Time Offer

after 6GB, unlimited 128k speed

NOTE: Ultra.Me is the company that owns the "Mint Mobile" brand. Its now trying to spin-off Mint-mobile into a separate LLC for legal reasons. Both the brands use T-Mobile's MVNO-bandwidth allocations and hence users could experience moderate to severe service de-prioritization compared to TMo direct plans, possibly depending on location.

AT&T Prepaid service is good in terms of network connectivity and pricing. Only negative point is if you want to call customer service, it will take minimum 30 to 45 minutes to connect the agent. Also no App version for prepaid. In postpaid, App is available and Online Chat option too which is very helpful to avoid waiting time in the call.

If I am not mistaken, prepaid service directly through AT&T will get same priority on their network as their post-paid. Not like their MVNO cricket where coverage can get shoddy at times. At $25/month, and 8GB data, I think it is a great deal for someone who's already on Cricket or other AT&T MVNO service - and satisfied with their quality/coverage.

I understand there are taxes and other surcharges that Cricket may not charge, but lowest Cricket plan is $30/month, and it only has 2GB data.

Only thing is this is essentially a 1 year contract since you're prepaying for 12 months.. but only $25/month.

If you are an android user, MVNO like Red Pocket are also a good option. There was a deal few weeks ago on their ebay store.

If At&t screws up on my 25gb Walmart plan again this month I may try and get them to switch me to this 360 plan. I definitely don't wanna call every single month to get the 17gb bonus data. I haven't ever used over 5gb of mobile data.

Red Pocket is a good option ....but if you have a need for limited (Canada/Mexico, etc) international roaming - this plan is still a better deal.

I'd like input on how to handle next year when this 'teaser deal' price for first timers goes up to (I think) $50.00.

If there is anything useful to know in advance to either stay with them at a lower price or move along (to Mint or RP or H2O, etc) please share.

Was this during checkout? TX here and no taxes were charged on the plan itself, just taxes on the $4.99 SIM card

I would go for it if AT&T didn't have terrible service here.

prepaid and postpaid is the same coverage and speed

I may go for the Mint deal offer $15 a month w/ 12gb data. Only for 3 months is the drawback, don't feel like hunting another deal after 3 months lol

But I believe they do prioritize postpaid plans. Having said that I don't have any issues with speed on my prepaid.

And I believe roaming is available too for AT&T prepaid.

When I had cricket, I would have no signal when I drive out in the boonies, since roaming isn't an option with cricket or most mvno providers.
