Not true, I have 7-figures in Fido in a good mix of taxable and retirement accounts, no dice. Guess another year of no filing, IRS too poorly funded to catch me anyway.
Retirement account as in IRA or as in 401k?

I've been with Fido for 10 plus years and have only gotten this last 2 or 3 years. A combined 401k and non-401k balances totaling > $1 million didn't do anything until non-401k balance >$1 million. Only traded 5 times a year.

Can anyone explain the logic of this move? Offering a $40 discount to a "high value" client? Why would you give the slightest fark about $40 if you have >$1M in no retirement investable assets? And let's dispense with platitudes that "this is how you become a millionaire".

Ahahaha, do you really believe millionaires want to waste money? Self discipline is one of the most important character traits when it comes to saving. Millionaires that are carelessly wasting $40 here, $20 there will one day find themselves no longer being one. It is simple math and logic that apparently eludes many.

For those who got the Download version of the "TT Premier for free" Fido offer, did Intuit make you go thru a credit card "purchase transaction" for $0 ? (That's how it was a year ago.)
No credit card required.

Is there a code that could be transferred?
I know someone who has this account but doesn't use TurboTax so I wonder if the code is transferable?
Thanks
No reason why it wouldn't be. But are you sure that they have the offer?

I think they can download the file and you can then install it on your computer - if they get the download version.
Also need to provide the new registration code that is unique for each purchase.

I am an Active Trader Pro client, and have yet to see the link to download TT premiew. I do see a link to take $ 20 off/... I wonder even if it is free, if one still has to pay (a) federal filing fee (b) state of california filing fee.
For the Fidelity deal, federal e-filing is included (it is for all tax software). If you use the online version, state e-filing is free because it is included in the "price" of the state software, and it's $0. For the CD/download version, you will have to pay to e-file California because it is not included in the price.

Also, everyone gets the $20 off offer. Even people who get it free get that offer. It's on a different page entirely, unless things have changed recently.

The free offer is at the bottom of the Accounts & Trade -> Portfolio page.

The discount offer is on Accounts & Trade -> Tax Forms & Information (https://www.fidelity.com/tax-info...n/overview)

Good info. Didn't realize online version is free to e-file for California.

Has anyone try to get both Online and Download for free from Fidelity?
I need the download version to do multiple tax returns for the family but I wouldn't mind doing my tax return online to avoid the California e-file fee.

I can't figure it out either, coming up on 30 years with them and certainly have enough invested there but all I get is a rock (aka $20 discount on TT).

FYI, and apologies if already stated by others, once you get free Premier successfully installed, you can UPGRADE to Home&Business for only $10 by launching TT, hitting HELP in upper left of TT and select UPGRADE. Very Slick!! Thank you OP and all others commenting here!! And Repped!
I just got an offer on several of my Chase Freedom cards for $5 back on any Turbotax purchase. There doesn't seem to be any minimum purchase requirement so in theory the upgrade should qualify if the merchant for the upgrade is normal Turbotax.

It could potentially work on state e-filing fees.

I got the Fidelity free TurboTax online Premier offer, but it says "Receive a free federal and state tax return", which I assume means one each.
I need 3 for my family, so cuts down on value to me. I had already bought HR Block ($20 for deluxe via newegg deal) which has 5 free federal files, but no free state files (I just print state and mail it in).
I'll see what Fidelity offers next year before I buy elsewhere first.

The "always look for the best deal" habit persists even in situations where the deal is not worth the effort. I'm actually making an effort to value my time and effort more than relatively minor cost saving.... But it is very hard for me to ignore a deal!
