These do look great for trips or if you want a more compact package to carry around with you, so I do think it's a good device.

But after completely destroying 2 sets of joycons there is no way I'm buying a system with them built onto it.

I've held a unit, I think if you're a regular sized guy, the regular switch isn't too hard to carry around. If you're smaller, or have a kid, then a switch lite starts to make sense, but keep in mind you can't dock and there's some instances shown that the switch lite has a little more lag when using wireless controllers with smash. Then again, with the smaller screen, you gotta have laser eyes to be able to play smash on that tiny screen from so away enough that you need a wireless controller.

I wonder how these do in daylight? I tried my OG switch one time in a car and the screen wasn't visible at all.

Mario kart 8 was originally released on Wii U, ported to Switch and is still $60 regularly (unless u find a deal). Good example of how Nintendo doesn't like to lower it's price on any of it's IPs. The switch lite will not go to $160. Nintendo likes to stick to their price models so for $180 (if u r a new customer) is almost as good of a deal as u will get. Best bundle deals r usually full price console with a free $60 game included.

Never knew the joycons were built in, that is a dealbreaker. Even though Nintendo replaces them for free, you would have to send the whole unit to them instead of just the joycons. I myself have sent 2 joycons in for repair already.

Its been as low as $180 on woot without any coupons, so it would be entirely possible to stack promotions to get it pretty close to $160. That being said, the switch lite is selling like hotcakes so it could go either way as all the money is made in software anyway.

Forgive me if this is dumb, but did you max out the brightness with the home button?

The switch screen probably isn't great in full sun, even at max brightness, but in the car it should be ok.

If you want a nice small case I recommend the official Nintendo flip cover: https://store.nintendo.com/ninten...cover.html

Do note that it can't fit games or anything else inside along with the Switch.
There are other, cheaper options that seem to be great as well but I really like how minimal and solid this one feels.
