I've had the impact for a while. It works well, I even used to to pull off the pitman arm when I replaced my power steering case.

What's your zip code? I see $59.98
Zip code 28037
The Denver NC store still has it for 50.00
I was going to respond it shouldn't matter but I input store locations in my area and in different states and they are still 59.98.
It may then be store specific.

I picked up the 1/2" impact last year and love it. Makes working on the car a breeze. I chose the 1/2" version over the 3/8" for the extra torque value.

kobalt is not doing very good. lowes has a big contract with craftman and because of that they took out kobalt's whole hand tool segment. kobalt now has less money coming in and they have to make up the cash flow on it's power tool segment.

translation - kobalt power tools will NOT be competitive in price with other brands that have an established name, reputation and history.

Thanks for that, I've had really bad luck with Ryobi.

Every Ryobi I've purchased has failed in less than 4 or 5 month. They always find a way to refuse the warranty. I wonder if Ryobi is getting pushed of out business by other higher quality tools?

That may explain Ryobi's typical refusal to honor warranty.

Do you have any contacts at Ryobi who might be able to help me get them to honor their warranty?

Hit up your states attorney general. Filing a BBB complaint can get their attention. Complain about the vendor as well, they sold it to you... Just make some noise...

Thanks, those are great ideas.

It just blows my mind how Ryobi is failing to provide the most basic of service regarding warranty. Their quality is below walmart tools IMO, but at least walmart backs their tools up in store.

They must be preparing to exit the tool business and leave the customer holding the bag of dirt.

They are replacing hand tools. Kobalt is going heavy into its power tool line, they have said they're releasing 20+ tools this year. So far they've released the ratchet, rotary tool, inflator, and the 4 slot charger.

Inflator??? Hmm

There's a corded inflator that has been out, and a 24v inflator that is being rolled out - very hard to find so far. I have both. The 24v inflator is much more convenient, although both are excellent with automatic shutoff at whatever pressure you set. Topped off 5 cars (20 tires), 4A battery went from 4 bars to 3.

you can just get an inflator and battery charger for a fraction of the cost kobalt's, Stanley J5C09 for less than $50

Stay far away from Ryobi. They are the children's tools of the industry. Mostly stay at home moms use them.

That probably explains why mine broke so fast. the warranty is nothing but a lie too.

They also use sub par materials. The plastic and metal is not adaquate for any type of work requiring durability. Better for light duty stuff like drilling styrofoam.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of slickdealers that have had the exact opposite experience with Ryobi. I wonder what it is about your case that makes it so different or are you just really really really unlucky?
