I see $179 in store. Got this a couple weeks ago, first pellet grill. Smoked a 10# brisket for 8 hours before the Superbowl and everyone loved it. The temp is pretty stable. All that you really really need is one of those remote meat thermometers(not at Sam's) while you are at Sam's, they have 40# pellets for $15 and a brisket/pork butt and you are good to go. I used their pellets, everything worked well.

Don't listen to the haters, it's easily the best grill you can get for $200 (readily available), and a really great deal at $150. All of these grills have the same internal hardware, same controllers, its all stuff made in the same Chinese factory. It doesn't matter if you get rec tec, traeger, gmg, all the same mechanical/electrical parts. You can tell because all of the pinouts, voltages, crucibles, everything is the same among all of them. Thinner material? What's the R value of steel? -5? Is your grill a fallout shelter as well? Go get a welding blanket.

If you go pick it up and are in a sedan, you will need to take it out of the box, but it fit very easily in my sonata.
Uhhh, false. I'm not saying that this doesn't have one, but just because it's a pellet grill absolutely doesn't mean it has a PID controller. I know a lot of the older Pit boss and such don't have PID which can cause some pretty wild temp swings. I'm unable to find if this one does but I figured since you were claiming it had the same board as more expensive grills that you would know. Guess not.

"The biggest difference between Camp Chef, Pit Boss, Traeger and GMG Compared to the $1K+ grills likes Rec-Tec, Pellet Pro, Yoder, Memphis and I know I'm forgetting some.

The Controller the 1K+ grills have what is called a PID Controller ( Proportional, Integral, Derivative ) in short these grills have a temp probe in the cook chamber constantly reading the temp and relaying the data back to the controller which is then continually adjusting auger speed and blower fan to maintain your set temperature normally within +/- 5 degrees.

The lower priced grills may or may not have a digital temp readout on the controller and although this temperature is reading a sensor from somewhere within the grill ( Not sure where) the data is not sent back to the controller in order to control the auger and fan for maintaining chamber temperature. Most of them have a dial thermostat with pre labeled temps normally in increments of 25 – 50 degrees which can sometimes trick the owner into thinking they can set the dial to 250 and hold that temp. Don't get me wrong some of them will hold pretty well but the company has preprogrammed these temp settings to control the auger. So say you have it set for 350 this is an example the auger might run for 10 seconds and off for 30 seconds. If you have the dial set for 225 the auger might run for 5 seconds and off for 45 seconds and the fan is blowing the entire temp. So the cook chamber temps of these grills will tend to run differently from the digital readout based on outdoor weather ( Air Temp, Humidity ) how much meat you have in and the temps of the meat, and the quality of the pellets used.

And of course the minor differences of metal thickness, type of metal ( etc., stainless ) hopper size and warranties"

Thinner materials than a traeger. So I would put this below in order of quality but it's pretty dirt cheap. If you're looking for better quality you should skip traeger and go straight to rectec or even camp chef has better features for the price.

I initially had the option for online at $199 or $149 in-store pickup with the in-store grayed out and an out of stock message. Changed it to another store farther away and it became available (in stock) for in-store pickup.

I seen it. Its cheap. 1 year warranty. light materials. No smoke stack.

Camp Chef smoke pro dlx was 308 at Amazon. 3 year warranty with smoke stack.

So lets do the math. You spend money on pellets and meats that will be far greater than the price of the smoker.

If you want to get cheap on a smoker...get electric.

Does the smoke stack do anything besides look cool? This cheap one has a vent in the side instead, i guess the smoke stack would keep the wind out, am I missing some other purpose to it?

Exactly....it looks cool which is true but you can adjust the smoke flow by rotating the stack up and down. And yes, it does keep the wind out and maintain tempertures.

Besides, all smokers vent out the sides and lid anyway as part of the process. My camp chef has smoke that goes out the side of the door and the stack. That is by designed. its fan blown smoke so it has go somewhere...

but yes...the stack looks cool. And chicks love smoke stacks.

Look at all the smokers at fairs ...at stores....they all have some type of smoke stack.

But who cares.....I just dont like holes in the back. Seems cheap when the 1000 dollars smokers have stacks...
