M.D. here. Vitamins are not proteins. Your body cannot make enough vitamin D under any circumstances, so you need it in dietary supplements, anyway. And the harm from UV rays, including painful sunburn, premature aging, and cancers, are far more dangerous than anything that was ever put in sunscreen. Protect your skin, and eyes, for that matter. Hope this helps to counter bad advice you might find online. Use sunscreen.

Thanks OP! This is our favorite brand of sunscreen.
The lavender scent bottle is also a good price:

Don't poison your kids. Vitamin D is an essential protein and everyone has deficiencies.
Vitamin D is not a protein and not everyone has deficiencies. You can get the amount of vitamin D you need from 15 minutes a day of sunlight (which many people probably get while running errands). Some of us (kids included) have fair skin and the sun can be like poison. I personally have a reaction to any UV light, which requires that I always wear sunscreen and long sleeves (in Florida). Luckily my child has skin like her father and does not require sunscreen, but not everyone can be so lucky.

OP thanks for the heads up! Good sunscreen is very expensive and I have to buy at least a bottle a month.

Replied separately. No offense, but I am compelled to post a response because I have expertise that can help protect people from bad information. I hope you find it helpful, too. Any more questions- please, ask your physician.

Some good info, except that it's not true that your body can make enough vitamin D- it simply cannot. Period.

I got my bad advice from another doctor. Everyone is low in these proteins because they don't get enough sun. Did Adam and Eve get them from Walgreens?

Vitamin D is NOT protein!!!!!

Thanks for posting. Got the kids version. Waiting for Costco to have their sale on the Hawaiian coconut one. But I don't remember how much it cost when it went on sale. All I know is that their pack came with 2 sprays and 1 small tube of the sunscreen.
