Picked one up in December for my inlaws. Used the google new customer code for $20 off which brought it down to $109 plus tax. Sounds good for the price but personally would rather go with a 3.0 setup.
Have one in our bedroom, sounds pretty great actually. Its obviously a soundbar, so don't expect miracles... but it's a definite upgrade from any TV speakers.
This is the updated version of the ATS-1070 (which is the Costco version of the YAS-107, the difference being that the firmware cannot be updated and later versions had DTSVirtualX).
The ATS-1080 is lighter weight than the 1070 and all have DTSVirtualX.
The 1070 is an outstanding soundbar and the DTSVirtualX allows it to really shine in large room installations easily filling the space with crisp intelligible sound throughout the space. I installed multiple 1070's in classroom settings (30ft+x25ft+ cinderblock construction). At the <$150 price point, solutions with stand-alone subwoofers don't work well for large open rooms. The standalone subwoofers are simply inadequate to fill the space properly and what you get is a muddled sound that is not clear throughout the space. This is especially important with sound that included the human voice in a classroom setting.
This also has HDMI passthrough and HDMI ARC, which a lot of the other soundbars at this price point don't have. This allows the device to get a true virtual surround as it can receive digital 5.x audio.
The speakers themselves are good but it is really the DTS Digital X that allows the device to shine, especially in large open space rooms where subwoofers (at this price point) are actually a determinant. And if you find that you really need a sub, you can add one to this system.
At $100 for the main system, you will have saved a considerable amount of money that you can invest in a quality subwoofer.
In terms of mounting these, mount them (and any soundbar) above the TV in large rooms when the TV is mounted low to mid hight. This allows the sound to fill the room instead of being absorbed/reflected by whatever is in the first 1/3rd of the room before the sound waves have a chance to reach the rear.
These also work the best if you are feeding them HDMI audio not audio over 3.5mm input. 3.5mm works good but some audio programs will be better with the DTSvirtualX off.
TLDR: Perfect for large open rooms where intelligible sound throughout is key.. The DTSvirtualX allows the soundbar to easily outclass solutions of higher price points.
I'm giving this a thumbs up. Don't understand the negative votes.
Heard in my Costco today, sounds amazing for the form factor. Note reviews at Amazon are very good even at a $200 price point.
I was quite surprised too when I checked it hours after posting that it was mostly thumbs down. I think people were judging the price against a slickdeals post of refurbished ones.
