It looks like AT&T may be starting a new promotion for the start of the month. I just went to my account to see what is offered since my 100mbps fiber plan is about up. Only 100mbps($45/mo) and 1000mbps($39.99/mo) is offered, no 300mbps is offered, but it was available a day ago for $40, and I saw an ad for it on TV today. If you have AT&T internet, check the plans offered in your account dashboard. There is no mention of equipment charges, but this is for a bundle. Southern states.

AT&T Internet 1000
Includes unlimited internet data$59.99
$20 off for 12 months with bundle-$20.00

Internet subtotal
$39.99

It was weak sauce, i switched (yesterday) and tested the speed at speedtest.net. I hit 320 mbps download but when i went to ATT and used their speed test - it showed 1000mbps. I'm sure they must be fibbing on the numbers.

Edit: I just tested my google wifi and ran a speed test - looks like 700mbps today. So definitely better
Good for you! 700mbps is very good. I used ATT speed test this morning and it gave me an error. Will try to restart the modem again tonight when I get home from work and run the speed test from my desktop with a wire connection. Can't wait to see my internet speed to go up to 500mbps+ lol

Just ran a remote speed test on my Orbi after AT&T processed the change: 785 down / 823 up.

Went from Internet 300 to Internet 1000 for -5.01 a month. Amazing deal.

I actually don't think AT&T is fibbing on the numbers because the numbers they're showing is what they're sending to you, but how you're receiving it makes a huge difference.

If you're on a wireless connection, you probably won't be seeing anything that close to 1000Mbps. Your stated 700Mbps is actually really good, especially considering Google WiFi's limit on the 5Ghz band is 867Mbps, if I remember correctly. And with wireless connections, there are many variables that come into play, such as interference, channels, and the antenna and radio configuration of the access point and client.

To get really close to 1000Mbps, you'll need a wired connection.

What speeds were you getting before switching?

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic
Touche lol! I was using a wireless connection on my laptop - i don't know why I didn't bother to run my desktop which uses a wired connection. That probably explains it since my google wifi is a direct connection to the AT&T modem. Before I was hitting 300mbps with a 300mbp plan.

Remember, price will be 10 dollars higher. They refuse to let you use your own equipment, and charge 10 dollars for the equipment every month.

Just got off the phone with an ATT rep. She said everything looked good from their end but she can see that my modem is not registered to 1000mbps yet - still showing 300mbps. She asked me to restart the modem and if i still have the same issue, call the technical team directly. They will be able to help me. But I'm not at home now. I will try again when I get home tonight. Hope this helps!
I already rebooted my modem twice after signing up. Then I logged into the website and used the reboot feature from there too. Nothing worked.

I have this speed and unnecessary for most people.

Wifi speeds aren't going to be this high and most devices can't accept this speed. I bought all new gigabit equipment, but this is mostly for direct over lan high performance computers.

I mostly agree WITH your statement. However, considering a 4-person household with plenty of connected devices, the amount of bandwidth is very demanding. In addition, as a biggest bonus, the giga plan comes with unlimited data Smilie

I might not need the unlimited data, but the giga speed helps my video buffering tremendously due to my router QoS setting.

paying $70 for gigabit for last few years and they said this promo is not available for me ...sucks
Have anyone tried downgrading their pplan and then upgrading online? Some of these reps are denying say promo is only for upgrade. Loyalty is no help.

Correction, there are small pockets that have fiber. Generally the newer areas. I live in an area of Arlington that was built in 2008 and have the option of Charter with packet loss (up to 400/20) or ATT with a max of 50/10. Technically two providers but both suck for different reasons.
Actually, entire cities were covered in Fiber by Verizon more than 10 years ago.

It's literally your fault for not researching what internet is available in whatever home you purchased at the time. Stop crying.

$10 equipment fee is only if you're not a current customers. Most current customers are not paying fee, and will not start paying a fee if they switch to this plan.

You won't be able to use your own "modem" because AT&T won't provision it on your account. Each modem has a built-in cryptographic certificate, and will not connect if not provisioned on AT&T side.
