SteelSeries has good looking hardware and great marketing but their headsets don't measure up. I ended up returning mine. They had really poor sound quality and just weren't worth the cost. Check the reviews on Amazon and you'll see what I mean.
i think the pro has removable battery and maybe a dac thingy. i got a 7 used on ebay like 2 years ago and its still going strong. i use it like 20 hours a week +
I don't know why people are saying poor sound when these sound amazing. It did take quite a bit of fine tuning to get the sound where I wanted it with the gamedac, but oh man, I bought these at 290, and they're worth buying for that again.
The optical, giving you 7.1 on PS4 is amazing. The range on these is pretty nice as well, I can walk downstairs and chat/listen. It's also nice to have the extra battery, that charges while you play.
I personally struggle to recommend these for 2 reasons. One, my big head doesn't quite fit. My head goes all the way up to the metal slab. Even then, its clamping on my lobes. The cups could use to be just a little bit bigger as well. I came from an old pair of Astro A50s and was excited for the removable battery. The removable battery is a dream come true. The 2nd reason I can't recommend this is because the audio balancing is horrible. I know its technically a "chat mix" feature but I use it to mix PC audio and PS4 audio and you literally can't balance it out evenly. The PC audio is too soft one click from the right. If you click it all the way to the right, your game audio is completely muted. I definitely had app and master pc audio maxed out. I never had such a trouble with the A50s. I could balance it either way without any problem. Until they fix this, this headset is gonna be a frustration and I don't think they're gonna fix it.
I have a set of these and have been using them for about 200 hours now. My experience with them..
The good:
Sound quality is superb
Battery is hot swap-able
Wireless distance is really good
Build quality of the frame is excellent
The bad:
The mic volume for the PS4 sometime goes very low where people cannot hear you and you basically have to reset EVERYTHING to get it to work again. This is random and has no rhyme or reason. It sometimes takes an hour to get them working again. Steelseries is aware of this and has done nothing to address it as of yet. My research has seen this issue going back over 2 years. Google it... I have tried two sets (Sent the first set back because I thought they were defective)
Uncomfortable after about 2 hours - No matter how I adjust them
The volume wheel is clickable. mine has stopped "clicking" after only 6 months
Its impossible to figure out how to update the firmware on these and the PC companion app is lacking any kind of sensible flow.
Just bought these directly from Steelseries.com and they offer horrible tech support. They rarely respond back and they make the customer pay for return shipping off their defective headsets. Buyer beware
EDIT: This was purchased during their March 2020 sale.
I have both the pro and the 7 and I use the 7 much more than the pro on my PS4 console. It sounds great and the battery lasts longer on a charge than any headphone I have heard of. I can get upwards of 20 hours of play before I get the charge beep.
The pros I use on the PC and they are really good, but not 200 good. To get the sound just perfect requires a lot of settings in the pro's programming and in the PC. Kind of too much trouble for my taste. I like just plug and play with minor button adjustments.
they had a promo code that should have been honored but they went ahead and cancelled on everyone who used the promocode. a company that dont honor promos is a no no in my book.

im not surprised, a company who dont honor promo codes usually arent reliable.

Regarding the mic volume for the PS4, I experience the same thing. What typically fixes is restarting the PS4. I know it's a pain but steelseries own "technical support" said the same thing. Apparently it happens when you have had the console in standby mode for a while.
