What's new with you since Covid 19?

7,092 3,609 March 21, 2020 at 11:47 PM in Chat
Just wondering what (besides the obvious) how everyone's been impacted. Work has all but halted for me, other than some online reselling that I do. Also, my stepdaughter will be moving in within a few weeks, since she's being laid off. It will actually give her a chance to make a career change and save for a house. We are planning a bigger garden, too.

So, what's new with you?

Lots of great information here:

It's mainly for people to print different types of masks, but people are also sharing DIY masks, etc..
Thanks! Heading to that FB page now. I also realized we've got a mask in our earthquake kit ...

What are your feeling on masks? There was an article in the Washington Post over the weekend basically saying we should all be wearing them when we are out in public - if only to help us stop touching our faces! Who knew it was so hard to NOT touch your face. Of course I am a terrible sewer...any tips on making your own mask would be much appreciated. I def don't want to be taking masks away from first responder.
I have asthma and the crazy amount of pollen this year is making it worse.I'm not taking any chances. Masks may not be a guarantee, but every little but helps. If you search on Facebook or YouTube, there are tons of videos out. Look for one that has a pocket that allows you to insert a filter. You're right too, that the peers that be are asking to leave the masks for those who most need them.

My college shut down, got slammed with 3 weeks worth of work crammed into a week so we stay caught up. Testing locations and campuses are closed, so the professors and students don't know what's happening with finals. My girl was laid off for a month, and now it seems like it will be longer. Unemployment taking too long to come through. The stores have no rice. A lot of the stuff left on the shelf is super expensive/fancy food. Arizona just went into lockdown except for essential/grocery shopping. A lot of people in my area are really dopey and still think it's a hoax or one of many other tinfoil hat conspiracy theories. Running low on everything.. Trying to keep up with class work, essays, and now the daily stress of living on a partial income and trying to stretch groceries is going to kill me long before the COVID gets to me.

Anybody having trouble sleeping or taking naps with everybody home?
May I recommend
using a sound spa or
download a free one on your phone. There is even a free pink noise app at Google play, and YouTube also has some 10 hour white and pink
noise videos.
Good Night
💤🛌💤🛌💤
or should I say good
napping
💤🛌💤🛌💤
I have trouble sleeping and I've found that an app called Relax Melodies helps me. It has all sorts of sounds that you can use to create a personal sleep sound or you can use one of a number of presets. You can also add in binaural beats and isochonic sounds that work with your brainwaves to relax you and help you to reach REM sleep more quickly. There are also presets for relaxation and meditation. It's free. I did upgrade years ago for $2 or 3 , but I'm not sure if there a charge now. I'm actually a beta user for the app. I have an Android. Not sure if there's an iPhone version. Good luck!

Our college shut down too, our last day was March 18 at all campuses. All classes have transitioned to online and the staff are all working remotely from home. Definitely through April 30 for staff but through to the end of the semester in early May for all spring semester classes.

Everything is moving along fine, online. We are working and registering students for summer and fall classes, we are processing financial aid (my dept!) and taking calls, emails, and zoom meetings. I hope you are able to get more info from your school, they should reach out to all student with updates.

Here's a code if anyone wants to make an 8x8 photo book from Shutterfly while stuck at home. Redeem your offer at: shutterfly.com/kohlsbook (although I have in the past just entered these into my Shutterfly account in the promo area). Offer ends May 31, 2020. Code:KCPW-5R38-Z349-886E4Y Offer is good for a free standard page 8 x 8 hard photo cover book. :-)

It's absolute madness. And all these classes that use systems like Mymathlab.. The site can't handle the load of all these students, so it's just slow, disconnecting, waiting an hour refreshing a blank screen over and over. It's nonsense and the professors don't give a damn.

Well... I'm sick and my doctor said it's suspect for Rona but she couldn't test me. You need a fever of at least 103 for it.

Even with a flu shot, plenty of handwashing, and rarely leaving the house, I've always been a magnet for all kinds of viral infections and they stay with me for a month on average. I figured Rona will kill me or make me a carrier. Started feeling sick last Saturday which was a surprise as I've left the house maybe 6 times since the start of February.

Sunday had me cycling through every symptom you could imagine. A lot of people here in the epicenter don't have respiratory symptoms and I didn't either. By Sunday night I was so sick going to sleep was too scary. By noon on Monday, I felt a bit better but it's very slow going. Saw my doctor via a video appointment. We're both perplexed.

It feels like a bad case of the flu. Viruses don't hit me so hard in such a short time. Maybe I fared better this time because my fruit and veggie intake is way up, no more meds, rarely eat processed food anymore. Back to bed.

I admit that I'm a piece of crap who can't commit to things I start and have very little consistency, however, with the conavirus and being forced to stay home, I watched some videos from a YouTube who gave great advice and I feel I'm turning my life around currently. I've started to build my better habits since two days ago and I feel I'll be able to consistently maintain these habits.

I was extremely sick the week before thanksgiving. Fever, body aches, cough, felt like utter crap for about5 days. Never felt that bad with a cold or the flu. Now their saying that people could have had this starting in November. Supposedly, researchers are working on a test to tell if you've had it, to hopefully see if those who have, developed immunity. I hope you're feeling better very soon! hug

I think a lot of people are looking at things in a whole new way. I wish we didn't have so much going on. It would be nice to just have some down time.

So, today was my great niece's 15th birthday, and we did a neighborhood parade in front of her house. We threw presents and snacks at her, like Mardi Gras floats. It was really funny. We also had a social distancing birthday party for our neighbor on Friday. We alk stayed at least 6' apart, brought our own drinks and snacks, and because we were on golf carts, it was easy to run home and use out own bathrooms. FaceTime and video calls on messenger help my friends and i stay in touch.

How have y'all socialized?
