Lowe’s: SKIL 30-Piece Carbide-Tipped Router Bit Set for $69 and free shipping

1/4-inch shank, carbide tipped, this set includes a variety of shapes for edge-forming, surface-forming, straight cuts, mortising and joinery.

At $2.30 per bit this is an excellent starter set for someone wanting to experiment with routing techniques and learning how to use a router rather than destroying high dollar Freud bits.

This set was a Black Friday deal at Lowe's back in 2017 for $50, but has hovered around $85-$100 since. The set was $110 at Home Depot, but it looks like they've reduced their price to $71 [homedepot.com], keeping pace with Lowe's. Amazon is only available from Marketplace sellers, so no competitive PM.

I've been watching this set for about 3 months. It will routinely go on sale for $69 about once a month for a week or so. I don't have an urgent need at this point so plan to wait to see if goes back to $50 for Fathers day or next black Friday.

I had one cheap brand router bit break on me. Another one was out of balance apparently and was making a scary noise. Buy the best router bits you can afford. Whiteside are the best. https://www.mlcswoodworking.com/ is affordable and good quality. A bad router bit can literally kill you. Do not go cheap.

Not slick.

These are rather cheap router bits. Its nice to have a wide selection but the cut quality and life on these is average at best.

I also bought this identical set in 2018 for $45 at local lowes.

These bits suck. Blunt easily and left some marks on your wood. I bought the years ago at $50, but rather to buy a few quality bits.
Freud and Bosch can be easily found in big box stores, and Whitesides and rockler are also good ones. Routerbitworld has plenty of choices of various bits, and also Amazon.
Routing is dangerous. Please use quality bits.

I've heard the same thing from alot of people on YouTube saying to invest the money in a good router bit and just buy what you need at the time. Eventually your collection will grow and they will all be quality tools.

After burning through a couple Ryobi drill bit sets, I do the same thing for drill bits now too

These are really horrible. Save your money. Regret spending so much. They really didnt last long at all. Almost became dull in 2 or 3 uses.

Skip.

i agree these bits aren't that great. I had one break on me. However, it is nice to have the option when you need something in a pinch that you don't own a quality version of.

I agree with most here, stay away from cheap bits. Rockler blue bits are priced right and are of very good quality (esp on sale).

The only bits I would use in this set are the small bits. I'd feel much safer using the 1/2 in shank type for the larger flush & ogee bits - instead of these 1/4 in shank bits. So considering that, the $69 price is not good.

I've had this set for a few years that I picked up for $50 during Black Friday. It's super cheap quality. I've been upgrading my bits to Freud and there's a massive quality difference. The Skil bits burn VERY easily. Freud bits have no burning whatsoever. While you may save some money in cost, you'll make up for it in the time it takes to sand out the burn marks. I only use the chamfer and 1/8 roundover bits.
