Each guest must provide valid medical, firefighter, or police identification.* In addition, many Red Roof locations are exterior corridor properties where separate hotel room doors open to the outside of the building, instead of an interior hallway. These are nice gestures, but they seem crazy when you actually look at what is required to properly clean a space where the virus has been introduced. I doubt Red Roof Inn would be up to the task and would not likely take the hit for the true cost.

CNBC had an article about what it takes and how much it costs to disinfect these areas with a company that specializes in this. Upwards of $100K and requires access to special virucides and strong hydrogen peroxides that are not available to the general public. That's why our schools shut their doors immediately when this was all first announced before any cases appeared. The cleaning costs alone would decimate the budget.

Think cruise ships are actually doing it the right way? Or planes? Or any number of hotels? Or even grocery stores? Most of these are dubiously clean on a normal day. Look how much norovirus outbreaks there have been in regular times.

We had someone locally that was asking to borrow a camper for volunteer responders. No one offered.

It's sad that they couldn't find help, but that's just crazy.

Agree! any maid offering to clean these rooms gets my respect AND HOPEFULLY A RAISE! I hope they get free rooms there also. Best they could hope for would be a Lysol can , some wipes and a bible (for those that (stiil) believe ) if that was my pre covid job. Still, happy that these hotels have stepped up! The best of humanity is on full display.

It appears like the virus dies after about 3 days so the disinfecting process wouldn't actually have to work, it would just need to close the hotel for a few days and the virus would die by itself.

And that article, assuming it's the one about that crime scene cleanup company, is misleading. It quotes the CEO as saying he uses a professional grade virucide not available to the public, implying that products available to the public aren't effective. This virus isn't relatively hard to kill and most disinfectants sold (by market share) are effective against other Coronaviruses, presumed to work against this one, and on the EPA's list of products for use against Covid-19.
