Don't know much about Ukeleles, but I just bought one of these for my daughter... match it up with the three month free Fender Play lessons and cross my fingers she enjoys it 😀
My 8 yr old daughter wanted to learn so we picked the Kala Mahogany Soprano Ukulele after visiting a well stocked store (currently $57 on Amazon). The Kala uke came with mahogany top, back, neck, and sides, a walnut fret board and bridge, and quality Aquila Super Nylgut Strings. Easily worth the extra $27.
No matter which ukulele you buy, you will definitely need a clip on tuner for @ $10. These work way better than an app. The app on a phone uses sound to tune so everything has to be super quiet, the clip on tuner uses vibration and is much easier and accurate. Ukuleles use nylon strings and they stretch a lot until broken in, I mean a lot!! The clip on tuners are fun and there are some pretty cool ones on Amazon!

I think it would be fine for kids. I bought this, and a Kmise from ebay for $37. Compared to the Kmise- which itself is a chinese cheap Uke- this Mitchell looks and feels super cheap. I ended up returning it. FYI the concert has been $29 on and off for nearly a year now.
If you're getting this for anyone but small kids, stay away from soprano size. Concert is a much better size
