We had a +342 FP thread recently for a
free license of Luminar 3. That link has expired.
But I found one going through Fstoppers that is still active. So if you missed out, here's another opportunity.
- Click this link [skylum.com]
- Register your email address
- Validate your address via the email they send you (check your spam folder)
- Receive a Luminar 3 license key in a follow up email
- Run the installer
(for whatever reason, Trend Micro doesn't like the link. If you have an Asus router with AiProtection turned on, you will have to disable it to install)
- Close the program
- Open the program
- Enter license key
If you're happy with V3, great. You're done!
If you want to upgrade to version 4, the
Earth Day bundle [skylum.com] is $54.

So Luminar 3 is actually pretty good. It has some built in presets and the AI photo editor is better than Lightroom's auto edit IMHO. Luminar 4 is even better: the AI is miles ahead of Lightroom's auto editor (to the point that doing an auto edit in Luminar looks Instagram photographer worthy). ALSO, Luminar 4 has this sky replacement thing that is all the rage right now. It automatically finds the sky in your photos and you can switch it out with most impressive looking ones.
Here's my recommendation:
Try Lightroom and Luminar 4, then see which one you like. Both adobe CC and Luminar 4 have free trials and I think Luminar 4 goes for a month now free?
Sign up for this free Luminar 3; then you can get the discounted upgrade for Luminar 4 if you like it.
I ended up using the upgrade discount, then a $10 off code (there are tons floating around online) and paid $44 for Luminar 4 (It was also during the Easter sale).
Overall:
1) Luminar has better AI editing than Lightroom (I would try Luminar 4, but get the free 3 now so you can lock in the discounted upgrade should you choose later)
2) Lightroom is still one of the best editors. It has better organization than Luminar 4 and runs more smoothly.
I plan to keep using Lightroom as my main editor, but then Luminar 4 as a plug in to do quick AI editing if I feel lazy. Hope this helps!

I am not a fan of Adobe's subsription model; but do have a license to the old lightroom6
