Lorex does not have good night vision compared to Q-See system I had a while ago. The deterrent feature is very nice. You can activate it for each camera independently from mobile app. Don't count on the Color Night Vision as they claim, unless there is enough ambient light.
There is one annoying thing I encounter during setup is that some cameras cannot be detected by the system when I plug the cable in. You might need to restart the whole system for it to detect all the connected cameras.
The NVR somehow can detect my Amcrest camera. So you can add on easily if you want to go with non-Lorex ones
Another concern is that the company is owned by Chinese Dahua starting 2018. I found that out after purchased it. So I only installed the cameras outside only. You should be cautious when considering to install it in-house or even in your garage.
Anybody have it and have pros or cons about it?
I recently installed this and generally I don't think you can beat this or find a better deal.
The cameras and video quality are great. Night vision could be better, but mine rarely kicks in because the area is well lit by streetlights.
Cons:
My only real complaint is their software. The AppleTV App is a total disaster. It opens up completely blank and you have to swipe around on the remote like a madman until something eventually shows on the display.
The Android App is also a bit glitchy, but is usable.
Their software quality control across the board seems to be severely lacking and disjointed across devices.
That said, I still recommend this and am holding out hope for future software/App improvements.
i Iive in a 2 floor house with 3000sqft in a slab construction
how much would it cost in a typical SoCal market rate? does typical market rate still apply for covid-19 times?

You want someone to come INSIDE your house to install this system DURING social distancing practices? It'll take all day to install this system depending on the house layout, requirements, etc.
You're better off just running the Ethernet cables thru the attic yourself. I did it myself the first time and it was fairly straightforward. You can also google and YouTube instructions and diys if you get stuck. Just plan everything out ahead of time:
1- all camera locations
2- are the locations mountable and accessible thru the attic
3- DVR location
4- can the Ethernet be run thru the walls or ceiling to reach the DVR
Those are the basics. You can get more complex and fancy if you'd like just by googling professional installs.
I use the Android app almost exclusively,
1. The most annoying thing is that when playing back video it skips the parts where it detects motion. You have to manually select the motion spot for it to play. https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/vid...nly.40075/
2. The motion detection is about 3 seconds slow. If a car drives by it is usually half way across the screen before the motion is detected. Lorex should subtract a few seconds before it marks the beginning of motion.
3. The Motion Zones don't work at all. Even if you deselect some areas, like a busy road in front of your house, it will still detect motion in those areas.
4. The LED lights are less than useful, they are almost a hazard. For example, I let my dog out at night to go to the bathroom before going to bed and I will sometimes monitor the dog using the app. As the dog wanders around our back yard she will trigger the motion detection, which turns on the lights and causes the cameras to switch to day time mode. Then when the lights go out it goes completely black for about 8 seconds before the cameras switch to night mode. During that time the camera cannot see anything and a person could easily get past the camera.

Depending on layout, other suggestion would be just run most of your ethernet through the garage, especially if you can put a POE switch out there. Makes running one wire out to garage easy and daisy chain out there. My old house had the room where I put NVR next to the garage. Made it simple to run multiple outside cameras.

Hardware installation was pretty straight forward. I also have Ring and didn't really expect much from the mobile app from a traditional manufacturer. However, Lorex Home app surprised me in the simplicity of app installation and getting it to work without opening ports and doing settings on port forwarding, etc. Compared to my prior two Qsee setup, the process was much easier, almost on par with Ring and other modern vendors. The functions provided on the app are sufficient and the app is responsive. I know the review online wasn't that great, but my experience has been pretty good. I'd suggest you try it yourself to make the judgement.
Daytime video looks great. Night time video looks decent, compared to my prior two Qsee NVRs and Ring. Color night vision works, if there's a bit of light source. Another surprise is that two-way audio actually works. We were able to talk to kids when they play in the backyard. Another icing on the cake is the LED light, which turns on when it detects motions (you can also adjust it for each camera on the app).
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this system. If there's anything to be improved, it's the AI recognition of a person. It frequently picks up my dog;s movement even though I set the alert to person only.
