Home Depot warranty for power tools: is it worth it?

Hi,

I just picked up the recent ~$209 Ryobi set from Home Depot. I wasn't sure if the extended two year warranty was worth it or not... ended up pulling the trigger, but I'm curious to hear what other people think about it. If it was a bad decision, I'll go and try to cancel it when the tools are ready for pick-up.

The warranty was $35 for 2 years in addition to the 3 year manufacturers warranty. The main draw for me is that it seems like they include battery replacements, but I'm not sure if I'm missing any fine print. I'll use them for DIY projects around the house, maybe once a week or so.

If it covers the batteries it's probably worth the $35. Replacement batteries are fairly costly and I had 2 go bad after about a year or so. Usually they go bad all at once, no warning either.

Not worth it. Ryobi has their own warranty, just don't forget to register. I've got a bunch of Ryobi tools and batteries and have never had a battery go bad in 5 years, let alone 2 years. The tools don't break easily either. The one battery that gave me problems after maybe 7 years was easy enough to revive.

Hm, that makes sense to me. It also looks like batteries are cheap enough (whether Ryobi or third party) to make replacements a better bet than a warranty. Thanks.
