Im terrified at the idea of having to swim through the sea of generic batteries on Amazon to find a good replacement (already been through that with wife's MBP...I did not come out a winner). However, this is precisely what CC warranty extension is for!

Bottom line the higher is the number of model, the better vacuum is both in terms of suction power and battery life.
V7 and V8 we had were great for quick task, let's say to mop kitchen floor quickly. When I needed to vacuum my car mats, mats itself and the floor, V7 and V8 didn't have big enough battery to finish this task. The most annoying part was the battery stopped working without any warning in the middle of usage. V11 has battery indicator (low, mid, and full) and overall works long enough to finish entire house on one charge which is amazing.
I have Dyson small ball, and V11, both working great. Before I've got my first Dyson I had no idea how dusty my floors were AFTER the usage of another 100$ vacuum. I was blown away and never looked back.
Per Dyson website, V7's battery will last for 2-5 years and then will require replacement. V11's battery will last 15 years.
To summarize, if you going to use it for about 15 minutes on highest suction, I would get V7 or V8, but if you want longer run on one charge, look into V10 or V11. V11 is the most powerfull model on the market.
Here is a good side by side comparison: https://moderncastle.com/dyson-v7-vs-v11/

I always buy mine directly from Dyson. They will match and often are lower than other stores. Comes preregistered. A few months back, we paid $ 299 for the V8 that included virtually every optional attachment. At the time, Best Buy was $ 150 more.
