I wish they'd update the software to truly have it just stay a clock 24/7/365 rather than suggest stupid crap I can say or do when I have zero interest in that. To me, that's pretty stupid that I paid for the item and also now am subject to advertising on how I can use it when I expressly told it to disable all of that crap. That's the single biggest problem with these for me and it's easily fixed via software changes if Amazon cared.

100% agree. The bloatware really limits functionality to me. Just show me the time, weather, and music. If I want more, let me find it. Don't force it on me.

I had the 10 inch one (that's what she said), but we sent it back for the Facebook portal. Really glad with that decision. Portal is great for cross country grandparent story time with the kids. And it integrates into WhatsApp, which is clutch.

Don't get me started on the 10" version (that's what she said! LMAO) as it has the same flaw I mentioned previously PLUS the clock/temp can only be a very small portion of the upper left-hand corner. For those like me that use the 5" version as a clock across the room but want a larger format and bought the 10" for this reason... it's actually SMALLER than the time/date/weather on the 5" version. This is asinine and someone at Amazon really needs to apply a little bit of common sense to the programming on these devices. Talk about missing it's mark in glaring fashion over being stubborn about stupid mistakes.

Not to mention the contacts UI is terrible. In order to chat with someone, they have to have an echo show too? Gtfo. We can now have the kids call my parents and my mom or dad can pick up from their phones if they want, but the real portal win is the stories and animations. My kids love llama llama and Pete the cat, and it actually superimposes their faces into the story. It's super fun.

Yeah, it would be better if they allowed you to load custom APK on this thing... it's pretty lame.. I have the 5 and 8 and don't really like it. Plus they removed the youtube app... can't chromecast it or anything.. super lame.

I have this one. It's a glorified alarm clock. Got it for $5 on prime day with an old echo trade in. I wouldn't pay more than $25 for it. Screen is too small to be useful from more than 3 feet away.

I turned all that stuff off so mine is just a clock unless I speak to it. It also shows the Temperature and date. It's perfect in that sense.

My complaint is that amazon notifications don't persist. Echo Dots all have an LED ring that glows yellow until you clear the notification. The Echo Show (all show models) just display the notification when it arrives and then it's gone. So if you're not home or you're away from an echo show then you missed it! I've got an old echo dot (muted) next to mine until they add this capability.
