I got an email with FedEx shipping details for all 5 sim cards on my order. my old number is still active with old carrier. Expected delivery tomorrow before end of day
Although your number was ported in to AT&T, your service with the old carrier still works until you actually activate the AT&T SIM. It's set up that way, so you still have cell phone service while the SIM is being shipped.

Anyone successfully open an acct as a new customer using Google voice numbers for porting? If so, did you enter all 0s for the SSNs?

Do not put in all zeros, doing so could get your order be cancelled.

So then enter the real ones? I was planning on porting from Google voice, which doesn't even have the SSN for the numbers

Yes. Put in your real SSN even though GV doesn't have that.

Yes. As soon as you port, the full amount is due for any outstanding finance agreements owed to your previous carrier.

1. If you plan to port out the phone numbers of the iPhones, the current carrier probably won't release their phone numbers until you've paid off the phones.
2. Are the phones locked to the current carrier? If yes, you can't use them with the AT&T SIMs until you've paid off the phones and the current carrier unlocks the phones.

How soon after I get the SIM card do I need to activate it? I'd like to use my old service to the end date to maximize my money.

Darkmando is correct. device pay off is due immediately on your next/final bill after number port out. You can port number out anytime. Be cautious if you still have lines with old carrier, that you may lose device credit if device is obtained on BOGO promo(you pay full price for devices upfront but get credits back on monthly bills) or may pay ETP if line is on contract(you sign a 2 yr or 1 yr contract in exchange for a discounted price for devices, you already paid for phone upfront, nothing is owed for phone)
consult your carrier if you have plan contract(you can leave anytime but have pay ETP) or device installment(no contract can leave anytime but is financing your phone with them. You may end up paying both ETP and device pay off depending on # of line that you port out. Also check unlock policy, hpham_53 is correct on part2

There are many scenarios. Carriers makes things more complicated than before by offering 1 or 2 yr contract in exchange for subsidized phone price, financing on installment(eg the ATT Next program), and leasing to buy/return after certain periods. Not to mention the monthly credit on devices(what they call the Free Phone or BOGO or 50%), Reading your post it seems like you are simply financing a phone with current carrier and don't have a contract with them.

Whew! Finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Hope it's not a coming train. Smilie

I tried to contact AT&T Port Dept this morning at 8:30AM CDT, but their automated phone system said no agent available and cut off the call. Tried to Chat, but when I entered "Port" as the topic, it said I needed to sign in as an AT&T customer to get help with that.

So I used the Port Status web site to update the acct#s and PINs for my 3 failed port numbers. Had to do it in steps, entered the corrected acct# first, then a few minutes later re-checked and entered the PIN. At least their system seems to submit the new info immediately. The port status show the numbers will be ported in by 1pm today.

Checked the order status and it showed "In Progress" for all 4 SIMs (only one was in progress yesterday). Then got an email showing the SIMs with the phone numbers assigned to them, and a statement that an email will be sent when they're on their way.
