10 bucks isnt for the router, its not even for the modem - its for the Fiber to ethernet converter box that you cannot buy. Thats why even if you have your own compatible modem/router they can still charge you the $10.
The charge is new and made up. I have ATT Uverse/fiber and i have had it for the past 2 years, my current plan does not have or had any charges for equipment rentals. ATT just revised all of their plans and got rid of the uverse branding, the new plans are actually more expensive and have longer length contracts paired with staggered pricing increases. This is all new, a year ago they had decent pricing available with 1 year contract terms. Now contract terms are 2 years with price increases in year 2 + equipment fees. One could say they are doing this because many people are at home due to Covid and are relying on internet/TV more than ever.
None of us on 49.99/month are on contract. We can cancel anytime with no penalty.
Unfortunately AT&T equipment (Modem/Router/Gateway) is Junk and AT&T support is one of the worst. This is the type of company that will waste hours of your time transferring you around to different incompetent call centers and you will get no where. Dealing with their junky gateway is dreadful when you have to setup CCTV systems or anything else that requires port forwarding or advanced network configurations. It would be 100% better to use your own equipment, but guess what, you can't with their system. You are forced to pay a monthly fee for crippled equipment!
Anyways, I'm done with AT&T and I no longer will setup camera systems or servers on AT&T internet as my customers will not get a good experience and will complain when it's something beyond my control. I don't get those issues with Spectrum where you can use your own equipment and have full configurability!
I've have att 1000 for about 2 years. My first year had a 65/mo promo. Then up to 100 after the first year. I tried getting another promo rate about 6 months ago. Lost that battle.
Decided to give it another go.
I first tried getting an att.com chat agent to give me the deal. They claimed that it wasn't possible.
So I followed advice and called and asked for retention / loyalty dept.
They honored the 50/mo for 12 months then a new standard rate of 65/mo after. Legit
Thanks errybody.
Slightly annoyed I still can't get it lower than $59.99 a month. No matter how many times I've tried, I can't get it lower. When I go to my account and try to change my plan, it even shows that I'm signed up for the $49.99/month plan, lol. They keep saying $59.99 is the lowest price offered to my account. At least I don't have an equipment fee.
I had 2 AT&T employees come to my front door 3 years ago to "thank me for being a customer" and tell me that fiber was coming soon. Three years later and fiber still not available!
Anyone have specs on their gateway device. is there a model number?

Got it installed yesterday. Is anyone having slow connection on wifi?
I am seeing 900+ up and down on wired, but on wifi I am not getting more than 150 down. Even though I have turned off wifi on their gateway box and using it just as a modem and doing IP passthrough to use my own router. On same router I was getting solid 230 down when I had spectrum, so I know that it is not my router that's causing a slow connection.
for those that ordered online, how quickly was your install appointment? Assuming no fiber has ever been run here which is my assumption, i'm guessing they have to feed a cable through a hole they have to open up from the outside?

I got an appointment 3 days after ordering online. Installation took 2 hours. I had spectrum and the previous residents had at&t uverse and their old equipment wasn't compatible. AT&t guy installed a small white box (he called it module) in my garage by feeding from outside exactly as you described, then ran ethernet to my network closet.

If you are using your own router, the wireless is coming from your router. Then that is the problem there. When you turn off your wifi on the ATT Gateway, at that point, the ATT box nothing to do with your wifi speeds. Wifi is now dependent on your own wireless router.
Now on wired, are you running the line out of the ATT box or are you running the cable out from your router? When I run it directly from the ATT box, I get 900+. When I run the ethernet cable from my Netgear Orbi, I only get 400 speeds. So it's the Netgear Orbi that has reduced ethernet speeds coming out of it. I know the ATT box is putting out 900. When the cable goes into the Netgear Orbi, the ethernet of the Orbi is not putting out the same 900 speeds out on wire. It's only putting out 400. That could be from the firmware of the Netgear Orbi. I have the same setup as you in that I turn off the wifi on the ATT Gateway Box and use the wifi from the Netgear Orbi. With the Netgear Orbi, I have 3 mesh routers on it. On any of my floors, I get 400 speeds on Wifi 5 ghz. On 2.4 ghz, I get around 250.
Same channel as before. I haven't changed any settings on my router besides ip. Had to change router to 10.0.x.x from 192.168.x.x since ATT box in on 192.168.x.x network.

On wired I am running cable out of router to a TP Link switch and getting consistent 900+. The only cable coming out of ATT box is going to WAN port on the router. Don't understand why I am getting 150 on wifi when same router was putting out 230 plus on spectrum. I did a lot of reading online yesterday on this issue and it seems to be very common problem with ATT network.
