10 bucks isnt for the router, its not even for the modem - its for the Fiber to ethernet converter box that you cannot buy. Thats why even if you have your own compatible modem/router they can still charge you the $10.

In my case the other choice is Comcast and they are much worse than AT&T.

We've had nothing but issues with the new ATT setup. While we get decent speeds wired in (450-990) the gateway/router is garbage with multiple devices it seems. I even went and bought the ATT network extender but it does almost nothing, getting .95MBPS wifi where our spectrum router was pushing 150-200 in that same location on a 400mbps plan.

Does anyone know if we cancel the AT&T service, do we have to return the gift card funds?

Seriously looking into going back to Spectrum, it's either that or I go spend 200+ on my own mesh system behind the AT&T gateway.
was excited to see this post on my fp (personalized) thinking this deal came back as my neighbor was looking to signup ditching his xfinity mid-contract due to their terrible service and support. Internet was out for 3 days last month during a storm in ATL area and their support were rude and say it will come back as soon as possible with no ETA.

Anyway the reason for my reply is to share my experience with ATT fiber for the last 2+ years. had 300 Mbps for a year on $40/mo and renewed with gigabit for same $40/mo including equipment ($50 - $10 for bundling service with cell phone), and I've had no complaints.
I have tested their gateway wifi a couple of times and get 400 Mpbs while in good range, I dont think any single access point would be good enough for a large area. I personally run UniFi APs (3) one on each floor and disabled wifi on the att gateway so I get decent coverage from most areas of the house.

If you can, buy a good mesh system to spread out the coverage, especially If wired gets you the promised speeds (I get 950 Mbps+ up/down almost consistently). I can understand why you are frustrated as they now force you to pay $10/mo for their not-optional device, but I would just consider that $10 as part of the monthly fee when comparing service. I have no use for such devices.

In Indianapolis its showing 60 + 10.00 equipment fee and taxes so in reality it's punching fairly close to 80.00 a month.

Thats the box that is mounted indoors I believe but my brothers recent house purchase suppose to have it but I think the previous homeowner took it with them so is there anyway of not paying for one? Att said there most likely will be a charge to replace it 😕

I am normally not a fan of AT&T but I have had their 1G fiber service for over a year now. Was paying $40/month with no charge for their gateway. Last month my promo price ended (was going to jump up to $80/month) but a quick 5 minute call got me on the new promotion.

For those paying the modem fee, just call AT&T. After I placed the order and was all hooked up, I called the next day and they removed the modem fee. You might not be able to get anywhere with the first person you talk to so ask to speak to their customer loyalty or customer retention department. It is those people that have more power to make changes to your account.
