Cheap but not a real wok. FYI carbon steel will give you the "wok" taste if that's what you're after.

Never heard of anyone using a Wok as a smoker.

Stainless is at least better than a non-stick wok (which is truly a joke), but as others have pointed out, carbon steel is the right material for a real wok. Online prices for carbon steel woks are outrageous other than looking directly at Aliexpress. (Wrought / Cast) Iron is also a traditional option as well, but you need to make sure that it's not obscenely heavy.

The better option is to find your local Asian grocery store and pick up a carbon steel wok there.

This is probably not a great wok if you plan to use it for stir fry's. Everything sticks. But might work out well as a smoker, however i don't like to smoke indoors.

I came to post the IKEA IDENTISK wok [ikea.com], but it looks like they don't sell it in the US market anymore...almost certainly because it has terrible reviews due to it being carbon steel and rusting if you don't season it.

In defense of those people who clearly don't know how to care for it, IKEA calls it "cast iron" (it's not) and at the time it was marketed as nonstick (the exterior is enamel and it came with thin layer of seasoning on the inside). I'd probably be disappointed if I didn't know what I was getting, too.

We've had ours for over 10 years and love it. It was only $9.99 when we bought it. Looks like it's the USD equivalent of $19.99 now.

You could probably pick one up for $15-$25 at a local Asian grocery.

The Wok Shop sells US made carbon steel woks [wokshop.com] too, but they're around $50 shipped

Yeah. Carbon steel is the way to go. They are relatively inexpensive. Sort of like cast iron in that they're cheap but you have to make sure to season and take care of them to make the most out of them. Go to an Asian Grocery store buy one and watch a video on how to season them and you're good to go.

Agreed that stainless steel wok is a no no. But, carbon steel is also not the best material for a wok (I'm assuming we are talking about home use here). Restaurants could afford to use carbon steel woks because their stoves can easily put out a BTU that is high enough to keep the wok always HOT. I realize that carbon steel wok is light in weight, making shaking and tossing easy (also the fun and cool thing of using a wok)... However, if the wok is used on an average household stove and if we really care about the wok toss taste, then a cast iron wok would work the best. Cast iron heats up more evenly (hot spots are common for carbon steel woks), and importantly, cast iron can retain heat MUCH BETTER than carbon steel, which is ultimately what brings you the wok taste. For household stoves (typically) with low BTU burners, the heat capacity and heat retention of cast iron become crucial for woks.
