I was in the market for this and after watching several comparison videos on Youtube showing how the coffee made by this new Next version has more air bubbles in crema (frothy vs creamy) and lower coffee temperature- I went with the Vertuo Plus version. You may want to do your due diligence if you care for your coffee. The Next is more like an initial/lower version of a new line with a subsequent upgrade coming in future.

I heard Vertuo Plus also didn't make coffee hot enough. Is it hotter than the Next?

Temperature seems to be an issue with Nespresso.

Plus is definitely hotter than Next. Now, there are also variations in Plus models based on the maker. The one I own is made by Braville and its nicely hot for me. Its not burning hot but just right. K-Cups are the hottest of the bunch but that's just nasty coffee (personal opinion).

I also have the original line Nespresso Essenza Mini made by Braville and that one has the same level of heat as my Plus.

There's a video comparison between the Plus and the Next: the Next makes a noticeably thinner crema. This may change after a few cups, but it seems like a downgrade over the Plus. The lack of quality control with Nespresso machines has been lower than expected for a premium brand.

Trying to buy my first Nespresso. Can anyone tell me the significant differences between the Virtuo and the Essenza lines? From what I've read (unless I read wrong), a lot more people prefer the Essenza line. If I go with Essenza, is there a significant difference between the Mini and the Plus (besides the capacity)?

TIA!

If you are in the market for Nespresso, try out facebook marketplace and Craigslist if you are okay with a used one. I was surprised to see my area flooded with these machines in used market and price as low as 40$. I guess people underestimate the cost of the pods when they buy the Vertuo line and without the option of third party sellers, things get expensive fast. I even saw some that had the half finished sampler pod pack. I guess some get these as gifts and not used to espresso style of coffee. Just an idea.

I'm a very long time OL user. I've had so many wonderful OL machines, and am wondering if I should give the VL a try? I always make my drinks w/ice.

Essenza is an originalline machine, so you can use pods from third parties. You aren't locked into buying from Nespresso like you are with the Vertuo. On the other hand, the Vertuo makes full-sized coffee as well as espresso.

The Next also has a much smaller water reservoir.

Is simple terms, the differences are in cost and sizing. Original line will cost you less but you get tiny bit of coffee from 1 pod. Vertuo line will cost you more but you get 8 ounce of coffee like a regular size. You can get smaller size with Vertuo as well.

I actually ran into this dilemma as well. Bought both versions to have the best of both worlds LMAO Bought the original line from Target with the Aeroccino and then after a year bought the Plus version (just the machine) 'used' locally in like new condition.
